was a great welcome to Spring with all the Heritage ladies! Thank you
all for attending and making it a wonderful afternoon!
- The pool opened at 10:00 am on Friday, May 28th and
resident Greg Mischley was the first one to take a dip! The water was a
little chilly, but refreshing he said! We had quite a few at the pool

wonderfully warm weather!
- A WARM THANKS TO HERITAGE CRAFTERS!
Hope you were able to see all the beautiful dresses and washcloths that

GOODFELLOW DOLL REPORT
On May 20th, your Heritage Goodfellow Doll
Co-Coordinators (Marian Hansen & Linda Foltz) attended the 2010 Doll
Recognition Luncheon. We learned some nice things about the program.
Last year 12,000 dolls were given to girls in Detroit, Hamtramck,
Highland Park & River Rouge. The need was great in 2009 and greater
still in 2010. The award were presented for the top 10 dolls of 2009.
The dolls group picture appeared on the plaques given to the winner. The
dolls themselves are distributed randomly to needy girls, as were all
the other dolls. In my opinion - THEY ARE ALL WINNERS! Please help us
dress our 5 dozen dolls this year. We have a variety. If many do one or
two, they will all be ready to make some little girl very happy at
Christmas. Join us for one or both of our scheduled bus shopping trips
to The Berkley Doll Hospital. Whether for an outfit or accessories. They
are giving our group an extra-special discount! Take advantage! SEE YOU
ON THE BUS! Linda Foltz
NEW GENTLE YOGA CLASS

POOL EXERCISE CLASS

SENIOR SERVICES SEMINAR AT THE CLUBHOUSE (FREE!)
TUESDAY, JUNE 8TH AT 2:00 PM
This is a free seminar with lots of information for
you! We will have a speaker (Cindy) from Parents Changing Places, a
speaker from The Quality of Life Center in Auburn Hills and free LEAP
tests. LEAP stands for Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention. This is a
screening program including foot care instruction, footwear selection
options and foot screening for loss of sensation. This foot screening
identifies current foot problems or those at risk of developing
problems, and determines those people that would benefit from an
examination to a foot specialist, based on loss of feeling in their
feet. The loss of feeling or sensation may lead to the development of
wounds that the client is completely unaware of - extremely common in
the diabetic population. Come for the free screening and to hear all
that is offered!

Ponderings From the Manager
What a beautiful Spring we have enjoyed this year! The weather has been
very pleasing, hasn’t it? The pool opened as scheduled with many swimmers
enjoying the warm weather and beauty of the pool area. Unfortunately we
have had someminor mechanical problems with the spa and we were unable to
open it as scheduled. Hopefully the spa will be opened during the first
week of June. We have made some landscape improvements in the pool area.
We have added more stone ground covering near the spa area. We have also
removed and cut back trees and plants between the spa and pagoda. I am
sure you will be pleased with these improvements. Alex Robinson has
returned as our pool maintenance and operator this year. He and Nelson
Davey has done an outstanding job in getting the pool ready for the
season. A special thanks to both for their hard work and endurance during
this busy time! I will remind you once again to find your Pool Rules
Booklet and re-read it. There is some very important information to review
such as emergency situations. If you need another copy of the booklet,
just see us in the office. If you have any questions regarding the pool,
please feel free to stop by and talk with me in the office. Please
remember that the pool should be enjoyed by all! If you have a concern
while at the pool, come talk to me and let me handle the situation! If you
are going to have more visitors than you have passes; just give us a call
in the office and let us know.
Compost pick-up by Miller continues on Wednesdays. Compost MUST be placed
out by 10:00 am. Please remember that yard waste must be in appropriate
brown paper bags and must only be yard waste; not garbage. Example: If you
are planting flowers, DO NOT throw the black plastic containers into these
brown yard waste bags. They must be located in your regular recyclable bin
or in the garbage. Your cooperation in this matter will be greatly
appreciated. Trash pick-up continues on Thursdays. Remember that trash
should not be placed at the curb before dark on Wednesday. We understand
that sometimes there are circumstances that will enable you to follow that
rule. However, cooperation would be greatly appreciated. Trash should be
at the curb no later than 8:00 am.
We are still having some problems with messes left by pets while out
walking in the community. First, a very special thanks to all those
responsible pet owners who pick-up after their pets while walking. Keep up
the great work! But there are still a few who haven’t taken this
responsibility very sincerely! You MUST pick-up after your pet and then
deposit the bag in YOUR trash not somewhere on the common areas. Same goes
for plastic water bottle, cigarette butts or anything else you may need to
deposit as you are walking. Please be responsible, take them all home and
deposit off properly. We are very proud of the beauty of our community!
Please help us and do your part in keeping it that way! Again, thanks for
your cooperation in these matters!
I have one more reminder for you! If any information changes regarding
forms you may have completed for Heritage (Homeowners Information;
Emergency Contact; etc.), please remember to notify us in the office. If
your telephone number changes (including cell phone numbers), remember to
let us know so that we can keep our records updated. If you have any
changes for the gate house (changes in visitor allowances), please contact
the gate house directly. We need to have current records to assure we can
always reach you when needed; especially in an emergency situation! Your
assistance will enable us to keep our records up-to-date.
Beginning this month, we would like you to stop in the Clubhouse or send
us an email (heritagehills99@comcast.net) and let us know your current
email address. We will be attempting to collect addresses so that we can
send correspondence electronically. This has been suggested by many
residents. You can be assured your email address will never be shared with
anyone. It will only be used in the Clubhouse office for association
business. This will allow us to correspond in a much more timely manner
when necessary; such as announcements, resident deaths, meeting notices,
reminders, etc. So, sometime throughout this month, please get on our
list! Let us know if you are not interested in this service as well.
Remember, however, that when you change your email address, you will need
to update our records in the office!
As the summer progresses, there are many fun events planned. Be sure to
check them all out each month in the newsletter. Many motor coach trips
are being offered as well as trips on our bus. Be sure to pay close
attention to the sign-up deadlines for all events. In many cases we need a
minimum number of participants to make the event happen. Failure of
signing up before the deadline may cause an event to cancel. So, don’t
wait! Check them out, mark your calendars and sign-up early! If you have a
great idea for a trip or event; please come share it with me! I’d love to
hear your ideas! Please come join us as we make some new offerings!
Looking forward to seeing everyone outdoors .. walking or swimming!
Wishing all a beautiful summer season!

(From the May, 2010 Board of Directors Meetings)
To increase communications about Board activities we are
placing a brief overview of some of the topics discussed at each month’s
Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from April.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Our Treasurer, Larry DeRonne reported that once again we are well within
our projected budget for this quarter.
ASSOCIATION NEWS
You will notice two new improvements as you visit the clubhouse. Firstly,
we were able to identify the cause of our icing and overflow problems with
the porch overhang. We have added a second downspout and changed the pitch
of the gutters in order to correct this problem. Secondly, a new threshold
has been added to the entryway for easier access to visitors who use
wheelchairs and walkers. Our entryway now meets code.
The repair to the manhole cover at the entrance to Heritage has been
completed.
The city of Auburn Hills is no longer maintaining the area between the
sidewalk and roadway along Tienken and Squirrel Roads. It is now our
responsibility and Miller Landscape has sprayed the weeds and will
continue to care for this area.
The Board was able to ascertain that the city of Auburn Hills is
responsible for the traffic signal at Squirrel and Tienken. The city did a
traffic study of this intersection in December of 2009 and concluded that
a left-turn arrow from southbound Squirrel onto Tienken is not warranted
at this time. They are willing to reconsider this in the future but it
must wait until the repairs to Squirrel Road are completed later this
summer.
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE
Members of the Architectural Review Committee have completed a
walk-through to determine areas where sidewalks need to be raised. If your
property needs to have this work done you will receive a letter from our
manager. This letter will contain information regarding contractors who
can do this work and will give us a group rate.
The Board has met with Miller Landscape and designated several common
areas for tree replacement: the hill in Phase 1; along Heritage Drive; and
in the open area at the intersection of Hillsdale and Crestwood. We are
also considering various options for improved "shrub screening" in the
area of the emergency entrance on Squirrel Rd.
COMMUNITY VANDALISM NEWS AND REMINDERS
As you may have heard, there have been several reports of vandalism in our
community over the past month. All incidents have been reported to the
Auburn Hills Police Department. It is assumed that these acts are being
done by youth in our surrounding neighborhoods. It is also assumed that
they are walking into the community.
The Board of Directors is considering additional screening barriers at the
back emergency gate to discourage pedestrian entry. Bids are being
received to have this work completed.
As a precaution, if your car is parked outside of the garage, remember to
lock the doors. Please double check your garage carriage lights to be sure
they are in good working order (with correct bulb voltage). If you happen
to see anything suspicious (kids walking around especially late at night),
please call the Auburn Hills Police IMMEDIATELY. Please DO NOT
call the gate house as they CAN NOT leave their post. CALL THE
POLICE! The guards will automatically let the police into the
community. If you have any concerns, please speak to the manager in the
Clubhouse office. Thank you!!
