FAT TUESDAY IS COMING!
THIS MEANS PACZKI’S AT THE CLUBHOUSE!

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH
10:00 AM Until They Are Gone!

The Tuesday before Lent begins is called Shrove Tuesday. This is a time for feasting. It is the beginning of Mardi Gras which is French and means “fat Tuesday”
dating back to a time when the early
Catholics would use up all of their animal fat on the Tuesday before Lent was to begin. Thus these fruit-filled Polish pastries came to be! Be sure to stop by the Clubhouse on this day and enjoy a hot cup of coffee, a cup of tea and a delicious fruit filled goodie! They will be served until they are gone! No need to sign-up; just come and enjoy Mardi Gras or Shrove Tuesday with us!

RESIDENTS SENDING SPECIAL THANK YOUS:

  • Larry Moran shares: Thanks to my Friends at Heritage in the Hills: I would like to thank everyone for their thoughtfulness after my recent stomach virus/food poisoning episode and hospital stay. The flowers from the HH flower committee were beautiful. I enjoyed the thoughtful cards, thank you. I particularly want to thank Willie for dinner and shoveling our front walk many hours before Miller got to it. This is a wonderful community where we help each other. I am a lot better now and have had some of my medications realigned, so I hope to be even better than before! Thanks again!

  • Virginia DePorre writes: I would like to thank everyone for their care and concern with my recent illness. It sure was a scary occurrence and glad to finally be home again! Thank you for everything .. especially the prayers that seemed to work the best! It will be a challenge having to go to dialysis several times a week; but am doing so much better that I’m thankful! Thanks again!

  • Bunny Harms affectionately shares: Dear Friends: It seems like I’ve been on another planet since the demise of my gentle Marv. And then the fracture of a hip sent me on another journey, but I’m coming along healthwise. At long last I’ve landed home to Heritage in the Hills. It’s there, home among friends. The kindest and thoughtfulest. Friends who have such uplifting words, food to keep the body well when you don’t feel like eating. Cards and gifts such as lotions and a beautiful prayer shawl with an uplifting prayer. Visits helped spend the dreary day. It’s good to be back home in a community that is so unselfish, so comforting and hopeful. God Bless you All!

  • Dave Proper writes: I would like to thank my friends and neighbors for their kindness during my recovery from the accident. Thanks!

  • Sharron Ris fondly shares: Dear Heritage Friends: What a delightful surprise to receive the beautiful basket of flowers to help me feel better. They truly cheered me up! My wrist cast will be removed on February 1st. Thank you again for all of your thoughtfulness!

RED HAT HOT HONEYS HAPPENINGS

It appears that interest in the Heritage in the Hills Red Hat Hot Honeys has declined dramatically. Except for an event last June, no one volunteered to plan an outing during the remainder of last year. It is my opinion, the Head Mother, that the group be disbanded because of lack of interest.

Currently there are 66 registered members from Heritage. New members are also welcome to join at any time. Please consider offering an outing sometime this year! Planning an outing is really not hard work and is very satisfying seeing everyone have such a great time. It requires time to determine the outing and then calling to set it up. Ideas for outings are forthcoming from the Clubhouse office. Karen and Terri are willing to work with you to help you through the entire process including ideas for outings. We need outings for March, April, June, July, August and September and now is the time to step up to this opportunity! Take the step to start the planning today! Call the office and get some fun and exiting ideas! Once planned, contact me with details at gerrimolnar@sbcglobal.net or call me at 248-475-9713.

There will be a meeting of all Red Hat Hot Honeys on Tuesday, May 4th at 1:00 pm. Plan on attending this most important meeting to talk about the future of our Red Hat group. If we disband we will need to decide what to do with the treasury and where it should be donated. Let’s not let this happen! Let’s
re-group and come together and make this the fun, exciting group it has been for us all! Thank You!

Gerri Molnar, President

Ponderings From the Manager

Have you been in the Clubhouse recently and been in the restrooms? They can be very chilly! To avoid this, the thermostats in the library and exercise room must be kept at least at 70. If you would like to turn the thermostat down while you are exercising, that is understandable. However, before leaving, please turn the thermostat back to the original setting of 70. This will also help to alleviate the pipes freezing in the restrooms.! Your help in this matter will be greatly appreciated!

Another reminder for using the exercise room. Please remember to shut off the lights and shut off the machines when done using them. This seems to be a problem lately. We check them all before leaving the office for the day and often they are left running. Also, please remember if you turn on the TV to turn it off! That applies to everything in the Clubhouse! We expect you to turn on lights and turn the thermostats up; but PLEASE remember to turn everything back to it’s original position .. OFF!

Also, with winter strongly upon us, when leaving the Clubhouse, please be sure the outside door is closed behind you. If it is not shut all the way and a wind gust catches it, it will blow open and cause damage to the door. Just push the door closed behind you to assure the safety of the door blowing open. If there is salt laid on the sidewalks or parking lot at the Clubhouse, walking on it causes a slippery footing. Please use caution when walking on the sidewalks and parking lot. If the sidewalk at the Clubhouse is in need of a salt application and the office is closed, there is salt in the blue container around the corner from the door (where the shovels are kept). Feel free to spread some salt if needed. If the office is open, you can notify us and we will apply it. Just be careful and safe where you walk during these winter months!

Now that the holidays are well behind us, just a reminder that all holiday decorations need to be removed. This is a by-law and understand that this is a violation to keep them on up! Also, this is a good time to check your garage lights and make sure they are in working order. All working lights keep the community bright and safe!

The snow fall hasn’t been too wicked yet this season. Miller has done a great job at being here quickly and taking care of our community in an excellent manner. Remember, if you see damage done from a plow just wait to report it in the Spring. Damages will be fixed at that time. PLEASE remember that when we do have a snow storm to get out and get your newspapers off the driveways before the plow hits it and puts the plow out of order. Your help in this is greatly appreciated by everyone! When the plow breaks down, it means the work is delayed! And it’s very expensive for Miller! So, let’s all do our best to get the newspapers picked up!

I am glad to announce that I am now moved into Auburn Hills. Wow! I have forgotten how much work and hard labor it is to move! My family came to town to help and took charge and got it all done! I am unpacked and it is starting to feel like home. A very warm heartfelt thank you to everyone who has asked about the move, brought over a housewarming gift, or brought food and snacks .. All of it was greatly appreciated! Heritage is a very caring community and I’m very thankful for my many friends here! Thank you to all!

To all the snow birds leaving us, wishing you the best in your travels. Hope your winter months are warm and enjoyable! Here on the home front, we will be missing you all! Remember you can get the newsletter on line or we will mail it to you; just let us know! For those staying here, let’s have some fun! Be sure to join us for our Meatloaf Extravaganza this month! Homemade meatloaf, baked potatoes, green beans & rolls for $3 a person. How can you beat that?! You will need to bring a salad or dessert to share as well. And some fun bus trips in February. Check it all out and join us! Happy Valentines Day and THINK SPRING!!
