RESIDENTS IN OUR THOUGHTS …

OUR THOUGHTS & PRAYERS

To resident Bunny Harms in the loss of her husband, Marv, last month. We will miss his smile and his stories! Our prayers are with you.

Barbara Shrem’s granddaughter, Meghan Byrnes, died suddenly on Sept. 22nd in Phoenix. She was the daughter of Barb’s oldest son, Kevin. Meghan was only 20 years old, and died of a brain aneurism. Barb and her family had their own celebration of Meghan’s short life, with everyone gathering at Barb’s home on Oct. 25th. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time!

GOODFELLOW DOLLS

Thank you to all the ladies who tenderly dressed Goodfellow dolls. These beautiful dolls will make some little girls happy this Christmas. We will take a field trip to the Doll Hospital in Berkley next July to take advantage of their annual sale. Our special recognition dolls were done by GRETCHEN THAMS and SHERI KENNEDY. Thank you all for a job well done! Marian Hansen & Linda Foltz

THE RED HAT HOT HONEYS HAPPENINGS

f you have any questions regarding Red Hats, call Gerri Molnar at 248-475-9713

It appears that interest in the Heritage in the Hills Red Hat Hot Honeys has declined dramatically. Except for an event in June, no one has volunteered to plan an outing during the remainder of the year. Because of this, I am planning to call a meeting in mid-April to discuss the future of the Red Hats in Heritage in the Hills. In early 2010 I will post a meeting notice in the newsletter. I would
appreciate it if all of the interested Red Hats attend that meeting. Thank You!

Ponderings From the Manager

A special note of thanks to all who have asked about my new granddaughter, Adelle who was born in October 14th. She is certainly beautiful and perfect! My daughter, Shannon and baby are both doing well! Thanks for all the good wishes from all!

This time of year I get a lot o questions regarding when the last grass cutting will occur. They are scheduled to keep cutting through the second week of November if it needs it! They have been busy already getting rid of the many leaves that have fallen. It is never-ending job, isn’t it? They will continue as long as they can! Hopefully they’ll complete the fall clean-up before the snow starts blowing! The last compost pick up will be on Wed., Nov. 18th. Remember to put your yard waste in the brown paper bags!

I have a reminder from Allied Waste regarding garbage. Please remember that when using cans or canisters for pick up, make sure that the garbage inside is packed in plastic bags. Loose garbage in these cans is not permitted. When emptying the can, the loose garbage blows all over. Your cooperation will help this problem be resolved!

A few other reminders as we enter into the winter months! Keep an eye on your garage lights and please keep them in working order. It is suggested that you use the “lifetime” bulbs that are available. Many have had great experience with them and find they don’t have to change the bulbs as often. Keeping your lights working helps keep our community a safe environment for all! Let’s all do our part to keep it safe and lit! Now, Clubhouse maintenance reminders! PLEASE .. If you are the LAST person leaving the Clubhouse after an event or gathering, turn the lights off! Do not just turn the dimmers down; turn the actual switch to OFF. Be sure to check the lights in the restrooms to be sure they are off. If you turn it on; turn it off! If you want to turn the heat up while there, we certainly don’t object! However, be sure to return the thermostat to the setting it was on when you entered. Please DO NOT turn the air conditioning on! This will cause the air conditioning units to have service problems and you can easily blow the condenser unit which will cost a lot of money to repair! Open a door or turn the heat off! If you turn the fireplace on after hours, PLEASE remember to turn it off before leaving. If you have used the kitchen, craft room or sound closet, be sure these doors are locked before leaving. If you have used the kitchen (and coffee pot), please clean-up before leaving and be sure the coffee pot is turned off! Do not return an empty coffee carafe to the coffee maker if the unit is on! Please do not use food found in the refrigerator unless you are sure it is not reserved for another activity at another time. If you serve food and have food left, please do not leave it on the counter. If you are leaving food for coffee hour or for community enjoyment, please leave us a note so we know. Your help in keeping the Clubhouse secure and safe would be greatly appreciated and will help us in controlling operating costs!

We have a special recognition this month to resident Ed Funk. He finished #1598 out of about 3000 entrants in the Brooksie Way Half Marathon at Oakland University on October 4th with a time of 2 hours and 18 minutes! What a great job, Ed! We are very proud of you for your accomplishment!

As the holidays are quickly approaching, there are many great events happening in the community. Our Community Thanksgiving Dinner is scheduled for Friday, November 20th at 6:00 pm. The cost is $15/person for a full Thanksgiving Feast! Catering by Katherine will be preparing and serving the food. This is always a great way to begin the holiday season with your friends and neighbors! It will also be the beginning of our 2009 Giving Tree to help a child or adult enjoy the true meaning of Christmas! We will be decorating the Clubhouse in all it’s glamour for the holiday season on Saturday, November 21st at 10:00 am. We will serve lunch to all the working elves! Come join us for the fun! We will have our Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 6th from 4 –6 pm. We will have several punches for your enjoyment. Bring an appetizer to pass and enjoy the music of Charley Gehringer. Watch for more information on the New Years Eve party on Thursday, December 31st from 9 pm - 1 am. Enjoy appetizers and desserts, champagne at midnight and music by DJ Billy Dee! There are also lots of bus trips for your entertainment during this time. Take a look at the calendar and join us when you can! If you are leaving for a warmer climate, we wish you safe travel and a peaceful and healthy winter season. Don’t forget to notify us in the office if you are leaving. Wishing all a Blessed Thanksgiving!

(From the October 8, 2009 Board of Directors Meetings)

To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief overview of some of the topics
discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from last month:

ASSOCIATION NEWS:

Thanks to all co-owners who attended our Annual Meeting on October13, 2009. For those who were unable to attend, here are some of the items covered:

  1. Board members Larry DeRonne, Kay Kastran and Pat Siepielski were re-elected to two-year terms. Ken Marzorati was elected to fill the remaining Board position. Board Member Bernie Ris decided not to run again and the community wants to thank him for his seven years' of service. He will be missed.
  2. Treasurer Larry DeRonne announced that the monthly Association dues would remain the same for 2010. His budget handouts are available at the clubhouse for those who missed the meeting.
  3.  Larry DeRonne and Association Manager Karen Reagan were able to negotiate favorable new contracts for trash pick-up and security which were key elements in allowing the Board to keep the dues constant for another year.

Violations to Our By-Laws

By now all co-owners should have received a letter detailing our new policy regarding violations to the Association By-laws and the fine structure for those who incur violations. If you have any questions regarding this policy or if you have not received the letter, please contact our manager, Karen Reagan.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE:

The streets in Heritage have experienced edge cracking and other damage due to wear and tear. In an effort to stem the deterioration, we have had repairs made to the streets throughout the community.
