Special
Recognition To Our Residents:
- A very warm and special thanks to Barry Thornton and
Greg & Mary Jo Marciniak for all their planning and organizing of the
Stringfellow Memorial Labor Day Golf Outing. After golf everyone
returned to the Clubhouse for dinner and prizes. It was an awesome day
and everyone had so much fun! Thank you for all the hard work!
- A very special thanks to all those “behind the
scenes” volunteers that help every month at the Clubhouse. There are
those that come in each month and fold/stuff the monthly newsletters. We
have a great database for helpers to do this and it’s a great help!
These same people are called upon when we have an Association mailing to
stuff envelopes and put stamps on envelopes. The many hands make the job
so much easier and we really appreciate you all! Then there are the
“block” volunteers who come in and pick up the newsletters and then
deliver them to your home each month no matter what the weather! How
great is that?! Thank you to all the block volunteers who do an awesome
job each and every month! Then there are those that help out in so many
other ways. Bridge and pinochle volunteers, game night volunteers (Rummikub,
BINGO & Mexican Train), computer club, Texas hold ‘em and the list goes
on. Thank you everyone who dedicates their time to Heritage in the
Hills! We appreciate everyone of you and thank you, thank you, thank
you!

Ponderings From the Manager
Fall is quickly upon us! Miller Landscape will continue cutting the grass
through October. They will be picking up leaves and doing fall clean-up as
they cut each week. It is time to turn your irrigation systems off and
remember to get them blown out and shut down for the winter. Before we
know it, the snow will be flying!
I have some updates and friendly reminders from our mail carriers. You can
go to USPS.com to do everything now! You can do change of address, hold
mail and everything! Remember that subscriptions to magazines are only
forwarded for about two months. After that can’t be sure you’ll receive
them at any address. Also remember that if you have a permanent address
you have to change both resident addresses for mail delivery otherwise
mail just keeps going back and forth! And, if you still want to use the
written forms, there are some forms available in the Heritage library for
holding mail or changing address.
If you are a snow bird and getting ready to leave to head south, it is
very important that we are notified in the office. There is a form to
complete (also available in the library) that gives us your information.
We will request and address and phone number for
emergency situations. This also where you can request to receive the
newsletters while you are gone. We will then mail them to you each month.
However, remember you can always get the newsletters on-line from our
website. Remember that the directory is also on the website. It is
especially imperative that we know that you are leaving this year. Our
trash contractor has allowed us to give a count for these five months for
pick up for homes. In other words, we do not have to pay for trash pick up
at your home if you aren’t there! In order to be accurate in this count,
we need your cooperation in letting us know when you are gone and when you
will be returning. Please help us by turning in this information before
leaving. A copy of that form is included in the newsletter for your
convenience!
Did you know? As of September 11th your voting location has changed.
Precinct 6 will now vote at the Apostolic Church at 3655 N. Squirrel in
Auburn Hills. You should have received a new Voters Registration card to
show this change. Also, are you aware that you must now have a federally
approved identity and citizenship document - such as an enhanced driver’s
license or state ID card, passport or passport card - to re-enter the U.S.
by land or sea from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or the Caribbean. Michigan’s
enhanced driver’s license & state ID card is a convenient, affordable
option. The cost is $45 for a license and $30 for an ID card. If you are a
U.S. citizen and a Michigan resident, take your MI driver’s license or
state ID card to a SUPER/Center office and present: proof of a valid
Social Security number, birth certificate (original or certified copy with
raised seal) or a valid U.S. passport. The
SUPER/Center office is at 1608 N. Perry in Pontiac.
Our handy neighbor, Norm Cloyd wanted me to let everyone know he is
available for help for small jobs. He is doing better and is willing to
help where he can. He also has furnace igniters if your furnace goes out;
just give him a call!
You’ve probably noticed that we have a new security guard at the
gatehouse. Her name is Jackie Johnson. She works the
afternoon shift Thursday and Friday (4:00 - Midnight) and on Saturday and
Sunday she is there from Noon until Midnight. The guard that was on that
shift, Doug Edwards, has been re-assigned with Securitas. Join with me in
welcoming Jackie to Heritage!
The time has gone by so quickly and summer has officially come to an end.
The pool and spa will officially close on Mon., October 5th for the
season. Although it was a cool summer, we had a great pool year. A special
thanks to Alex for a great job at the pool this year. You’ll still see
Alex around as he will continue to do some maintenance type work around
the Clubhouse. Thanks to all who used the pool this summer and enjoyed the
beauty of it all!
Thank you all for your support while suffering through my broken hand over
the last couple weeks. It sure has been limiting! It is healing and doing
well. You will find me out of the office for a few days in October. My
daughter is expecting granddaughter #3 in mid-October and of course, guess
where Grandma will be! Hope you come and join us for our Black Cat
Scavenger Hunt Fun in October. It will certainly be a memorable evening!
Don’t miss the fun! Happy Fall to Everyone!

(From the September, 2009 Board of Directors Meetings)
To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief
overview of some of the topics
discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here
are some topics from last month:
The Board of Directors has been working on preparations for the upcoming
Annual Meeting of the Heritage in the Hills Homeowners Association on
October 13, 2009 at 7:00 pm at St. John Fisher University Parish. We hope
that all residents attend this meeting to receive the latest update on the
operation of the community.
PENNIES FOR PEACE COLLECTION AT ST. JOHN FISHER
Do you have a jar or box collecting pennies that you would
like to donate to a good cause? St. John Fisher Church is conducting a
Pennies for Peace campaign, so bring your coins to the Annual Meeting
October 13th and donate them to fight poverty and build peace. Look for
the Pennies for Peace sign and collection jar in the gathering area
before you enter the chapel.
The Pennies for Peace program was initiated by the Central Asia
Institute, a non-profit organization begun by Greg Mortenson. An avid
mountain climber, Mortenson was lost and stranded on Pakistan’s K2
Mountain and was eventually rescued by local villagers. His experiences
in the village inspired him to write the best-selling true story, “Three
Cups of Tea,” and to return to begin building schools for children. To
date, Mortenson has built more than 200 schools in remote villages in
Pakistan and Afghanistan. He believes conflict in Central Asia will not
be won with bombs, but with books. In regions where terrorist
organizations recruit uneducated, illiterate children, the pennies you
donate can buy a pencil, start an education, and transform a life.
