WINTER TREE CUTTING PROGRAM

The ARC is again this year coordinating a dead tree-cutting program this coming winter. If you have dead trees on your property that need to be cut down, they can be included with the Association tree-cutting program at a group cost savings. NOW IS THE TIME to identify the dead trees with yellow plastic ribbon which you can obtain from the Clubhouse Office. You must submit an ARC Application which lists the marked trees to be cut down. The application must be submitted by September 25th in order to be estimated by our tree service. Also, please let us know about any problem trees in the common areas near your home which may need to be included in our survey. Ponderings From the Manager

As the days get shorter and kids go back to school, we know that fall is fast approaching, and winter is just around the bend. Some people will be excited about the change in seasons because of the beautiful colors of the foliage, football, and cooler air. For others, this can be a reflective, almost sad time of year. Saying goodbye to summer and staring down a long winter might not be appealing to some. Nature is preparing to quiet down or hibernate. I encourage you to celebrate the new season and its beauty. Some are already planning to head south to the warmer climate. It is imperative that we are alerted in the office if you are leaving. We need to know how many homes will be closed to keep count for our rubbish pick up counts. Even if you don’t want the newsletters, please complete a form to let us know that you are leaving. Please remember to include address and phone number of where you will be should there be any problems with your home in Heritage while you are gone. If there is a need to contact you, we must be sure we have the necessary emergency information. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!

With the thought of fall quickly approaching, the pool and spa will officially close for the season on Monday, October 5th. Until that time, be sure on those beautiful days we still will enjoy in September and early October to come down and take a dip! Join us this month for s’mores at the pool on Saturday, September 5th at 2:00 pm. Only $1 for a delicious s’more! If the weather is chilly, come anyway! Keep warm by the BBQ!

I have notified by our letter carrier that Certified Letters and Packages can now be picked up at the Auburn Hills Post Office. If you recall, in the past if you’ve received a notice that one of these articles were delivered to your home and you were not there to receive it, you would have to go to another location to pick it up. NOT ANY MORE! Now you will be able to pick them up at our local Post Office. Isn’t that great news?!

Did you know that the City of Auburn Hills Fire Department and the Senior Services Department has developed a KnoxBox Safety Program to aid elderly and disabled residents? The KnoxBox Safety Program gives the Fire Department quick access to a home when the homeowner is not at home or unable to answer the door. It eliminates the need for a forced entry and/or dependence upon family or neighbors who may not be available for a key. Only the City of Auburn Hills Fire Department will have a master key to unlock this box to gain entry into home in the event of an emergency. Participants in this program will have a secure lock box installed on the exterior of their home. There are a limited number of KnoxBoxes available for eligible residents at no charge. Homeowners who may not qualify for a free KnoxBox, may purchase a KnoxBox at cost. This is a great program for residents who live alone, are elderly, disabled or are caring for someone who may be unable to open a door for emergency personnel. If you would like more information on these boxes, call the Senior Services Department in Auburn Hills at 248-370-9353.

Our resident, Norm Cloyd, has at one point in time put his name in our newsletter to say he could do some jobs needed around your home. He then asked not to call him as he was surviving cancer. He is now ready once again to be contacted for those simple jobs you may have around your home. Feel free to contact Norm at 248-786-8788.

The Flu Shot clinic has been scheduled for Sat., Oct. 3rd from 10 am until 2 pm. You can sign-up to get your flu shot now. Remember that you must bring a picture ID and your medicare card. As of this writing, they weren’t sure if the Swine Flu Vaccine would be available. Notice will be made at the Clubhouse when we find out. Also on this day we will be doing a Craft Show at the Clubhouse. Anyone who would like to have a table for their crafts must sign up at the Clubhouse as soon as possible. While you are waiting to get your shot, you can shop the Craft Show for all those special holiday gifts!

We are collecting school supplies again for The Lighthouse of Oakland County. They are accepting all supplies and backpacks for those children who otherwise will go without. Please bring the supplies in to the Craft Room by September 11th. The Heritage knitters are working on charity scarves for the Red Scarf Program. For more details, see me in the office or come to our next meeting, Fri., Sept. 11th at 1:00 pm. Have a wonderful beginning of fall!

 May it NOT snow!!

THE RED HAT HOT HONEYS HAPPENINGS

There is nothing planned for September or October. It appears that we will not have an event for the rest of the year.
If someone wants to plan anything for October, please let me know either by phone (248-475-9713) or e-mail gerrimolnar@sbcglobal.net. We have ideas to share if you need those!

Enjoy the rest of the summer!

(From the August, 2009 Board of Directors Meetings)

To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief overview of some of the topics
discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from last month:

ASSOCIATION NEWS

Here’s an update on recent projects in and around the clubhouse:

  1. The Board met with a representative of a company which does concrete and asphalt maintenance and repairs to discuss the condition of streets within the complex, specifically Heritage Drive and the area of Hillsdale around the clubhouse. It was decided to have some minor work done at this time, along with striping of the crosswalks and the center stripe on Heritage Drive. The major work to repair edge cracking will be scheduled for Spring of 2010.
  2. A request was made to invite candidates running for Auburn Hills City Council to the clubhouse for “Meet the Candidates” program. This request was denied as it is a clear violation of our by-laws.
  3. Three year contracts for Security and Rubbish are expiring as well as some annual contracts. The Board is now in the process of re-negotiating those contracts. Some contractors have requested increases which the Board is working to off-set in preparation for the 2010 budget. We'll keep you advised as to our progress.
  4. The Board also met with our attorney to discuss reported violations to the by-laws by residents. Our attorney is drafting letters to violators and is also drafting a letter to all homeowners explaining remedies and fines for specific violations. You will be receiving this letter shortly.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Our Treasurer reported that our budget is on track through July, 2009.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE

Bernie Ris recommended that we have our landscape contractor spray weeds growing along the curbs
throughout the community. The Board agreed to this request. Also, the ARC is planning to do a Fall
survey for trees to be cut this winter. Watch for further information on this.
