Ponderings From the Manager

First, another reminder about the two forms you need to turn into the Clubhouse office NOW! We are looking for the return of the Homeowner Information Sheet and the Visitor List forms. Both were distributed in the past newsletters. PLEASE return the completed forms NOW!

Hope you all have taken the times to see the newly resurfaced tennis courts behind the Clubhouse. They certainly look beautiful and we are proud of them! We ask that you please keep dogs off the tennis courts as it presents a potential problem because of damage due to the animals claws. Thank you for your cooperation!

Our Pool Operator has notified me that there has been evidence of food, glass and cigarette butts on the lower pool and spa decks. In the Pool Rules you will find that no food or glass is allowed on the lower deck. Although glass is not allowed at the pool area at all, food and drink (in cans or plastic) is allowed on the upper deck where the tables and umbrellas are located. Smoking is ONLY allowed by the back side door of the Clubhouse where you will find a standing ashtray for cigarette/cigar butts. There is NO SMOKING at the pool area. Your cooperation to these rules will be greatly appreciated.

It has come to my attention that the National Kidney Foundation will be in our community on Wednesday, August 12th. They are in need of clothing (men, women, children of all types and sizes; accessories; shoes of all kinds; bedding items and linens (no mattresses); houseware and glassware; small miscellaneous items (bric-a-brac); toys, games and tools; and costumes/seasonal items. They do not pick up furniture, large appliances or computer equipment. All you need to do is place your bags/boxes at the CURBSIDE by 8:00 am. Mark the bags with a “K”. You can get a tax deduction for your donation. If you need more information, call them direct at 586-465-0408.

Many of you have received a letter from me requesting that you elevate trees on your property. Thank you for those that have responded so quickly and promptly to this request! When you have the work completed, please notify the Clubhouse office. We ask that you have this work completed in 30 days, or by September 1st. It has also come to our attention that many homeowners have those pesty hard surface crack weeds (those weeds that grow in the cracks of concrete/asphalt). These weeds could be growing in your driveway, street curb or sidewalk cracks. You can handle these yourself with a spray & removal, or call Miller and they will be happy to do the work for you. They will charge $10 per home and $12 per corner lots. You can schedule the work directly with Miller Landscape at 248-391-6113. Your cooperation in these matters is very much appreciated! These are the things that keep our community looking so well-groomed and beautiful!

I know several residents have time on their hands and are looking for ways to volunteer or help in the community. The Auburn Hills Senior Center is in need of volunteer drivers for their Meals On Wheels Program. If you have an hour or two available and would like to help, please call Linda Parks at 248-370-9353. This is for a good cause! You will be helping a senior unable to get out to a get a meal delivered. Please consider helping if you have some extra time on your hands!

We have had delivery of the new AT&T Phone Directory. They are in bags in the Craft Room. If you’d like a new directory, please stop by the Clubhouse and pick one up today! We do not allow delivery to the homes in the community. It causes an unsightly mess if a resident is not home and it sits outside. We accept delivery in the Clubhouse and you are welcome to pick one up there. Get yours today if interested!

Hope you have all had an opportunity to check out our new Horseshoe Pit in the old Bocce Ball Court. All supplies are available right there for your enjoyment. The Bocce Ball equipment is also available there. Feel free to use the Bocce Ball equipment on the lawn next to the court. Sure hope you stop by next time you are out for a walk and throw a shoe or two!

With fall quickly approaching, the Heritage Belles & Beau’s Handbell Choir will be beginning a new season preparing for the Holiday Season. We have found that because of changes, we are in NEED of additional players. PLEASE, Please, please! If you have any musical background, please consider joining our choir. We practice once a week usually on Thursday mornings from 10:00 - 11:30 am. WE NEED YOU! We are really proud of the progress we’ve made over the years and want to continue making music for the enjoyment of others. We have a lot of fun and would love for YOU to join us. Please call me in the Clubhouse Office if you would like to learn more about it! Please consider it!!

Summer is winding down and fall is just ahead. Come down and enjoy the pool or the many events we have planned for you! Be sure to attend our 10th Anniversary Open House on September 20th from 4 - 7 pm. We are planning a great event for your enjoyment. See you around the neighborhood during these last glorious months of summer! Stop by and say hello as you are out enjoying the day! See you soon!

THE RED HAT HOT HONEYS HAPPENINGS

Eight Red Hatters enjoyed the tour of Berloni of America. Their innovations for organizing a kitchen were impressive. Many of us would like to have some of those ideas incorporated in our kitchens. The lunch afterwards at Grand Traverse Pie Company was good, and the camaraderie was excellent.

Because no one volunteered to plan an event, there is nothing planned for August, September and October.

Enjoy the Summer! Gerri Molnar

(From the July, 2009 Board of Directors Meetings)

To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief overview of some of the topics
discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from last month:

ASSOCIATION NEWS

Here’s an update on recent projects in and around the clubhouse:

  1. When getting the pool and spa ready to open this spring we discovered that the pool and spa covers had worn out after many years of service and would need to be replaced when the pool is closed for the season. Our manager researched replacement covers and the Board voted to order new covers to protect our pool and spa over the winter months.
  2. The problem at the front gate of programming new General Motors cars to open the gates has been resolved. If you are having any problems programming your new GM vehicles, please notify Karen Reagan she will be able to assist you.
  3. It was brought to our attention that we have a trip hazard when going from the upper level to the pool deck. Our yellow and black warning tape came off. The Board agreed to have a stripe painted at the edge of the steps to make this area more visible and safer.
  4. The committee that is planning our 10th Anniversary party has met and plans are underway for a fun event. The committee to plan the New Year’s Eve party will be meeting in August to start planning for this party. If you want to be part of either committee, please contact Karen Reagan.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Our Treasurer reported that through the first six months of the year we are within our budget.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE

Miller Landscape reported that they have received complaints about the common area behind the houses near the tennis courts. This area doesn’t get any water and the grass is dying. Miller suggested laying pipe and tying it into  our irrigation system to maintain this area. The Board agreed to this proposal.

Several street trees and backyard trees on homeowners’ property to be “elevated” (removing any lower branches that extend over the sidewalk and might interfere with pedestrian traffic or impede the ability of the grass cutters to mow front and back yards). Affected homeowners will be receiving a letter from our manager informing them of what needs  to be done. Miller Landscape is trimming trees in common areas and along the sidewalks of the common areas.  Residents are responsible for trees in front of their homes.
