- Rita Stringfellow writes: “To All My Friends at
Heritage: Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair.
Perhaps you sent a floral piece, If so we saw it there. Perhaps you
spoke the kindest words, As any friend could say; Perhaps you were not

our hearts, We thank you so much whatever the part!”
ANOTHER SPECIAL THANK YOU TO SHARE
Cyndy Snyder from the Women & Teen Pregnancy Center
writes: “Just a reminder … there’s no one else like you! Thank you
again, dear ladies, for all your beautiful gifts! They are such a help!
The Lord bless you!”
NOTE: The sewing group took many homemade projects to the Women & Teen
Pregnancy Center in January. They took 15 terry hooded towels, 25
knitted washcloths, 21 flannel blankets, 15 burp cloths, 15 bibs, 3
hats, 1 shawl and 2 fleece blankets. They do this several times
throughout the year! Be sure to thank these wonderful women for their
dedication to help others in need! I remind you once again, if you would
like to help with these charity projects and can’t join us when we meet,
feel free to work on the projects at home or make a donation for
materials needed to the ladies that work so hard! Great job, ladies!
OUR THOUGHTS & CONDOLENCES TO RESIDENTS ...
- Thoughts, prayers and our deepest condolences to
several families for their loss in January. First to family of resident
Dee Egan. Dee died rather unexpectedly, leaving daughter Colleen. Dee
will certainly be missed around the clubhouse!
- Secondly to Rita Stringfellow and son Steve and their
family in loss of resident, Billy. Billy suffered a while in Crittenton
before being put into hospice care. The golfers will certainly miss
Billy. We will miss seeing him in the exercise room at the clubhouse. We
will miss his joyous sense of humor!
- Lastly to Joan Becker and her family for their loss
of resident, Bob. Bob was in the hospital for quite awhile. Just as we
thought he was getting better, he began to fail. We will miss seeing Bob
at socials with Joan at the clubhouse.
RESIDENTS IN OUR THOUGHTS …
Prayers for Continued
and/or Quick Recovery To:
-
Norm Cloyd
-
Lynn Muka
-
Dean Balhorn
-
Joan Huffmaster
-
Betty Muscarella
-

-

A NOTE FROM RESIDENT TONY KOLP
Thank you for your thoughtfulness with flowers. Just
some info to help my friends at Heritage:
- I fell over backwards off a 4’ stepladder on 9-27
while in the process of painting the porch columns and tore the two
major rotator cuff tendons in my right shoulder.
- After a MRI revealed the tear, my doctor decided I
needed therapy prior to surgery. 4 weeks of therapy showed no right
arm improvement in motion.
- On 11-24 I had surgery, Orthoscopic, and had no use
or movement of arm for 3 weeks (in a sling).
- Therapy started on 12-23. Arm/shoulder therapy is 3
times per week and as of today all therapy is passive. I am faced with
at least 6 more weeks of therapy. Hopefully will be okay by golf time!
LESSON LEARNED:
- I am not as agile as once was.
- Stop and think before doing ‘not normal’ jobs.
- Safety means stopping, thinking, planning with
safety in mind.
- I (we) cannot afford these mishaps in our senior
years!
Note: House painting causes the most rotator cuff
tears per a medical report! Be careful and be safe!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! *CHANGE THE FUTURE: ONE CHILD AT
A TIME
The factors that cause children to fail in school are
complex, but the little ones who struggle in elementary school are
likely to fail high school and spend their lives in poverty. Research
shows that tutoring a child who is struggling in elementary school can
help them succeed. If you have limited time but a desire to do something
to impace a vulnerable child’s life and future, we have a unique
opportunity for you!
Rogers Elementary is a little over a mile from Heritage and is in
desperate need of tutors to work with children in reading and math
during the day. Please ask yourself if you could commit 2 to 3 hours a
week to help these needy students. For more information call Joanne
Stroebel at 248-377-0434.
Sylvia Bucknavich and Sheri Kennedy (Heritage homeowners) are presently
tutoring at Rogers. Both women will be leaving for part of the winter.
They would love to have a substitute tutor while they are away. This
would be a temporary commitment but it would be a huge help in keeping
their students on track. If you would like more information about their
situations, you can call them directly. Thank you for your consideration
to this matter!

Olympics, we thought we would continue with this project. Patterns and
ideas available at Stitchers Knitch on Fri., Feb. 20th at 1:00 pm at the
Clubhouse. If you can’t make that, stop in the office and we’ll be happy
to give you the information KNIT ON!
A WARM THANK-YOU FILLED WITH HEARTFELT GRATITUDE
In this troubling world, it’s refreshing to find
people who still have the time to be kind; people who still have the
faith to believe that the more you give, the more you receive; people
who are ready by thought, word or deed to reach out a hand in the hour
of need. Your kindness and caring play such a big part in the lifting of
spirit and heart. The warmest of thank-you’s can’t even begin to express
what a wonderful blessing you’ve all been to us. Heritage in the Hills
is such a caring community and we feel it and see it every day. We feel
so proud to be part of it all. We are so thankful to each and everyone
of you for the gifts received during the holiday. We were touched beyond
words for your generosity. Thank you for making us feel so very special.
Wishing everyone a warm, safe and healthy 2009! Thank you from the
bottom of our hearts! Karen and Terri

Ponderings From the Manager
Those of you that use the clubhouse on a regular basis have probably
noticed the chill in the restrooms! It is necessary to keep these rooms
warmer so that the pipes don’t freeze! We have placed new reminders at the
thermostats in the library and the exercise room. We would like them both
kept at 70 degrees. If you would like to turn down the temp while
exercising, please feel welcome to do so. Just remember when you are done
to return the thermostat to 70 degrees. Please help us keep the clubhouse
safe from frozen pipes! Also with the freezing weather, when leaving the
clubhouse after office hours, please be sure that the outside doors are
closed tightly behind you. Thank you in advance for your help and
cooperation in keeping our clubhouse atmosphere safe for all!
There were several residents that had concerns when they heard that the
Detroit News/Free Press would stop 7 day delivery in March. They requested
we look into having newspapers for sale in newspaper boxes. We were
successful in completing this task. We have heard your concerns about
having the boxes located in front of the clubhouse. Once we know that we
will be selling enough newspapers to warrant having the boxes, we will
relocate the boxes. Until then, know that you can purchase the newspapers
right here in your community!
Now that the holidays are over, just a reminder that holiday decorations
need to be removed. Also, this is a good time to check your garage lights
and make sure they are in working order. All working lights keep the
community bright and safe!
I have received a suggestion from a resident regarding those who are cat
owners who may be seeking pet watchers as they make plans for travel
trips. It was suggested that cat people are cat lovers and perhaps could
share this opportunity together. Most cats prefer to stay at home, so it
is visiting the cat with
responsibilities such as feeding, cleaning, etc. If you are a cat owner
and would be interested in helping others, or perhaps finding someone to
care for your pet while gone, give us a call at the clubhouse and we will
keep a list and have it available when you might need it.
What a winter we’ve had so far! Miller has been doing a wonderful job in
keeping our community as safe as possible. We are having a luncheon for
them on Thurs., Feb. 12th at Noon to show our appreciation for their hard
work. We need your help in bringing a dish to pass, and helping serve and
clean up. Please sign up to help today and come let them know how much you
appreciate all their hard work! And with snow and ice in mind, if you find
icy conditions while at the clubhouse, there is salt available around the
corner by the office window. Don’t hesitate to throw down some salt if
needed once we leave. And remember to walk carefully and be aware of the
salty and icy conditions. Remember that the salt itself can also be
slippery. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE and THINK SPRING!!

THE RED HAT HOT HONEYS HAPPENINGS
(If you have any questions about the events listed or would like to join
the Red Hats, please call Willie Swayze at 475-0012)
I know I am stating the obvious, but it looks like we are in the middle of
a long, snowy winter. To relieve our “cabin fever”, I would like to
propose just a lunch on Tuesday, February 17th at the Palm Palace to sit
and chat with our fellow Red Hatters. The Palm Palace will give us
individual bills, and I will make the reservations. It is close and if we
have a snowstorm, we can just cancel and reschedule. If you are interested
in getting out of the house on February 17th, please call me at
248-276-9713, or e-mail me at
gerrimolnar@sbcglobal.net. Thank you!

(From the January, 2009 Board of Directors Meetings)
To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief
overview of some of the
topics discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter.
Here are some topics from last month:
ASSOCIATION NEWS:
-
It was discovered that several circuits were burned out on
the electrical operating panel for
the entry gates including the circuit that controlled the residents’
entry gate. The electrical
problems have been corrected and the Board agreed to postpone a decision
on replacing the gates until warmer weather. However, based on the age,
usage and repair costs, we expect to replace these original gates this
year. The fixing of the electrical panel merely removed the urgency of
doing something immediately.
-
An order has been placed for new chairs to replace the
current dining room chairs. The lead time on this order is five weeks so
we should have the chairs by spring.
-
Regarding our concrete lawsuit, the defendants asked for an
extension to submit their brief. The brief has finally been submitted
and we must now wait to hear from the Appeals Court. We will keep you
informed as we get more information.
-
The Board previously reported that we were looking into the
purchase of another piece of exercise equipment. After further review it
was decided that based on the use of the present equipment, a purchase
was not warranted at this time.
MANAGER’S REPORT:
Miller Landscaping has been doing a really good job with
snow plowing during this period of heavy
snowfall. Residents have suggested that we have an appreciation luncheon
for the snow removal crew
and Karen will make arrangements to do this in the near future. Please
read her column for details
when she has this scheduled.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
There was no Treasurer’s Report at this time. Larry DeRonne
is waiting for year-end figures to close
the books for 2008 and will have his report at the next Board meeting.
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE:
B & E Tree Service of Oxford did an outstanding job of
removing the dead trees on both common
property and homeowner property. After completion of this job, we had a
bad windstorm and lost an
additional ten trees. B&E came back into the community and removed these
additional trees. The
Board is very pleased with this company and their service.
