Ponderings From the Manager
Everyone should have received the mailing announcing
the date of the fall Annual Meeting. It is scheduled for Tuesday, October
21st at 7:00 pm at St. John Fisher Chapel. Hope you all plan on attending!
In that mailing was the annual Designated Voters Representative Form. This
must be completed and turned into the office prior to voting. If this form
is not completed and recorded, your vote will not count over the next year
for any Association
business that may occur. Please get this form into the office at your
earliest convenience if you haven’t already. Thank you!
Hasn’t the summer gone by quickly? Fall is quickly approaching! The pool
and spa is scheduled to officially close on Monday, October 6th. So, this
is the month to get into the pool and spa and enjoy the last month of
swimming! I’m sure you have all seen our new Pool Maintenance employee,
Alex Robinson. Alex has been doing a great job keeping the pool in great
operating condition! Make sure you welcome Alex to Heritage when you see
him in the Clubhouse or at the pool area.
The sewing group has requested that if you happen to get the newspaper and
see coupons for JoAnn Fabrics and aren’t going to use them, that you clip
them out and turn them into the office so that the sewing group can take
advantage of the coupons and savings when purchasing material and yarn for
all the charity projects they do. Donations to the group for aid to this
means is also appreciated.
At the end of August we lost a very important part of Heritage in the
Hills! Pat Halstead, our exercise queen, has left us because of relocating
in Florida. After seven years of being here with us and offering some
outstanding
exercise programs, we had to search for someone new! We wish Pat the best
of everything as she begins this new chapter in her life. I’m sure we’ll
all keep in touch with her and see her when she comes back to visit. We
will certainly miss her greatly!
Replacing Pat is a very difficult task! Because of her length of service,
she has become to know the residents very well. She knows the strengths
and weaknesses of all participants in her classes and worked effectively
with that. A new person won’t have that advantage at the beginning!
However, I believe we have found an instructor that will offer a great
program as Pat did. Her name is Heather Mearns. She was referred to us by
Pat. She is highly experienced and certified. She is currently a personal
trainer at North Oakland YMCA. She will begin classes on September 8th and
continue with the Monday, Wednesday and Friday classes at 9:00 am. She
will also be doing the Chair Exercise classes at 4:00 pm on Tuesday and
Thursday beginning September 9th. Please have some patience with Heather
as she begins anew. I welcome you to share your opinions and thoughts with
me. We know she won’t be just like Pat; but we hope she will offer a great
exercise program just as Pat did. Let’s be positive and give Heather a
chance!
The Pool Exercises will continue through September remaining on Tuesdays
at 5:00 pm beginning September 2nd. Shelley Kletter, our Pool Aerobics
Instructor will be doing these classes for the rest of the summer. Let me
know how you think the classes are going. I will be anxious to hear your
comments and opinions. Change is a hard thing; but can be a positive thing
too. Let me know how you think things are going over the next month.
Before we know it, the fall will be upon on us. There are lots of fun
offerings this month and upcoming. Mark your calendars now and come share
in the fun with your neighbors and friends! Hope to see you there!

THE RED HAT HOT HONEYS HAPPENINGS
If you have any questions about the events listed or would like to join
the Red Hats, please call Willie Swayze at 475-0012.
Our August outing was a wonderful luncheon at Pasquales during the Dream
Cruise week. Linda and Marian made Red Hat ID Wallets for all the
attendees. They are lovely and very useful. After our great meal we sat on
the sidewalk greeting all the old cars. We even had our picture taken with
a yellow vet and the owner enjoyed it as much as we did. Hats off to Linda
and Marian for a great afternoon.
There is a correction to the November outing. We are invited to attend the
Holly & Ivy Luncheon and Fashion Show on Sun., November 9th which will be
held locally, not in Holly. When you see the flier, please respond ASAP as
the tickets are at a premium.
If anyone has any ideas or would like to do a September or October outing,
please call me and I will be happy to help you! Thanks! Willie!

(From the August, 2008 Board of Directors Meetings)
To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief
overview of some of the topics discussed at
each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics
from last month:
ASSOCIATION NEWS
-
The Board of Directors would like to remind everyone that
it is against our By-Laws to display any political
signs on your property. Please be aware of this during the upcoming
election season.
-
In response to requests from residents, the Board has
established a new procedure for voting in our
upcoming Board elections. As usual, you will receive resumes of all
candidates running for Board positions,
along with a ballot and a return envelope. After the designated voter
completes his or her ballot, the ballot
is to be placed in an envelope which will then be sealed. The voter will
sign the outside of the envelope and
indicate their address or lot number and return the ballots to the
clubhouse. The clubhouse manager will
confirm that the resident has submitted the required voter designation
form (in accordance with the bylaws),
then forward the sealed envelopes to Michigan Condominium Corporation.
Michigan Condominium Corp.
will be responsible for opening the envelopes and tabulating the
results. Remember, ballots submitted from
residents who have delinquent accounts (including late charges) will not
be counted. Please make sure your
dues are up to date to have a voice in your community. The results will
be announced at the Annual
Meeting.
-
The swimming pool will remain open through Sunday, October
5th. It will officially close on Monday,
October 6th. Hopefully, we will have good weather for several more weeks
to enjoy our pool.
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE
The Architectural Review Committee has identified some
areas throughout the community where concrete
needs to be repaired. This work will be completed in the next few weeks.
This is only an initial phase of
concrete repairs; additional work that is needed throughout the
community will be scheduled in the future.
Bernie Ris identified several water shut-off covers that were damaged
over the winter months. He contacted the City of Auburn Hills and they
will be doing this maintenance during the month of September.
A Memorial Committee has been formed to assist homeowners who have
received memorial contributions in honor of residents who have passed
away. Please see our manager, Karen Reagan, and she will be happy
toassist in seeing that these contributions are put to good use..

ODDS
AND ENDS
WINTER TREE CUTTING PROGRAM
The ARC is again this year coordinating a dead tree-cutting program this
coming winter. If you have dead trees on your property that need to be cut
down, they can be included with the Association tree-cutting at a group
cost savings to residents. Now is the time to identify the dead trees with
yellow plastic ribbon which you can obtain at the Clubhouse Office. You
must submit an ARC Application which lists the marked trees to be cut
down. The application must be submitted by September 30th in order to be
estimated by our tree service. Be sure to list your winter address and
phone number if you plan to be away. See Karen at the Clubhouse Office for
further details.
-
By all these lovely tokens
September days are here, with summer’s best of weather and autumn’s best
of cheer.”
Helen Hunt Jackson
-
The goldenrod is yellow, the corn is
turning brown, the trees in apple orchards with fruit are bending down.
Taken from A Children’s Song
-
The full moon this month is the closest to
the autumnal equinox called the Harvest Moon. It extends the hours of
light for the harvesters to work. The Colonial American names are harvest
moon, fruit moon, dying grass moon, and barley moon. The Algonquin name is
harvest moon, and Dakotah Sioux name is moon when wild rice is stored for
winter use!
-
A LITTLE TRIVIA:
September was the seventh (meaning septem in Latin) month in the Roman
calendar. When Julius Caesar decided to start the year with January
instead of March, September kept its name but not its position.
-
CHANGING COLORS
The fall season brings falling leaves, colors of red, yellow, and
orange, the unexpected weather of one day nice and one day a snowstorm,
hunting season, fruit ripening, looking at the mountains and changing
colors, whirlwind of leaves.
