Special
Recognition To Our Residents:
- A very special thanks to Ann Moran who came in to the
Clubhouse in late July and sealed all the new back splash tile in the
kitchen. Thanks Ann! We really appreciate your hard work!
- A very warm thanks to Dick & Shirley Bentley for
their generous donation to the Knitters and Sewers for materials for all
their charity work. Thanks Dick and Shirley for thinking of our talented
ladies!
- Speaking of the sewers and knitters; aren’t they just
a great group? In the past month there was a donation to the Crisis
Pregnancy Center in Pontiac. Donations included bibs, baby hooded towels
and blankets. There was a donation to the Nursing Home of two boxes of
adult bibs. Now in August we will be mailing a large quantity of
blankets for our wounded soldiers. They are knitted, crocheted and sewn.
Beautiful quilts! Plus they are continually busy making pillowcases for
the Pediatric Ward at Crittenton Hospital. It truly is amazing the
amount of work and the beautiful work they donate each and every month.
Plus they also keep the comfort shawls and blankets in stock for our own
residents. Please consider making a donation to this group for
materials they use for all these donations in the name of Heritage in
the Hills! Keep up the good work ladies and THANK YOU!.

RESIDENTS SENDING SPECIAL THANK YOUS:
- Genny Torres writes: Dear Friends and Neighbors;
Thanks for your cards and telephone calls and the lovely basket of
flowers. I really appreciated it all. I’m feeling better! Thank you
very much!
- Susan Sonye (daughter of Marilyn Anderson) shares:
Nancy and I would like to thank you for the magnificent flower that
you sent to honor our mother, Marilyn. She loved beautiful things, but
she said repeatedly that nothing man-made compares to the wonderous
beauty of God’s creation. Flowers were a favorite part of that
creation! Although Mom lived in Michigan a short time, she loved her
neighborhood and her home here at Heritage in the Hills. Thank you
again!
OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY ...

LIFE LINE SCREENING
Protect your health. Protect your life.
STROKE PREVENTION COMES TO HERITAGE!
Stroke is the third leading killer in the world and the second among
women. However, most Americans cannot name a single warning sign
indicating a stroke is about to occur. Life Line Screening is dedicated
to the prevention and education of stroke, also known as “brain attack.”
As part of a program designed to reduce the risk of stroke, residents
living in Heritage in the Hills can be screened to reduce their risk of
having a stroke. There are 3 tests available: Stroke Screening/Carotid
Artery; Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening and Peripheral Arterial
Disease Screening. Osteoporosis Screening also available for $35. Life
Line Screening will be here on Thursday, August 28th
beginning at 9:00 am. Each screening requires ten minutes or less to
complete and are individually priced at $45. Sign-up for a complete
wellness package (four screenings) and pay only $139. Your results are
mailed to you in 21 days and you are referred back to your own doctor.
The tests are painless and non-invasive.
You must call 1-800-324-1851 to schedule an appointment for this day.
Pre-registration is required. Sure hope you consider this very
worthwhile testing!
BE AN ANGEL DAY
Friday, August 22nd at 2:00 pm
Gather with us at the Clubhouse to pack-up supplies to be mailed. We
have cell phones to mail and many blankets to be mailed for the soldiers
who are suffering in the hospital. The sewers and knitters have been
busy making these blankets and now we must prepare them for shipping!
Join with us to prepare these two mailings and to package the boxes.
Your help will be greatly appreciated by all! Sign-up to help by 8-18.
ATTENTION ONE AND ALL! - OLD TYME SING-ALONG!
If you’re longing for the songing that was done so
long ago, (30’s, 40’s, 50’s),
When the sounding wasn’t pounding, and
every word we’d know;
When the one who played piano was considered top banana,
But every gal and every fella could sing ‘em Acapella.
Then come over to the Clubhouse on
THURS., AUGUST 21ST AT 7:15 PM
Bring your voices, share your memories, And into song we’ll burst!

Ponderings From the Manager
I had the opportunity this year to stop in for lunch
at the Annual Golf Outing in July that Al Oros and John Allasio worked
hard at organizing. It was fun to sit and watch everyone come in and talk
about the great fun they had on the greens. It was a fun “shamble” and a
great time by all. And the lunch was delicious! Thank you for giving me
the opportunity to be there and be part of it this year! The Annual Labor
Day Golf Outing is all scheduled thanks to Mary Jo Marciiniak and Barry
Thornton. Look for the flier in this newsletter and be sure to sign-up
right away! Catering by
Katherine will be doing the cooking for the dinner at the Clubhouse
following golf. Another one you won’t want to miss!
I hope you agree with me that the Miller Crew continues to do an
OUTSTANDING job in the community. Visitors that come into the community
always comment about how beautiful the landscaping is here at Heritage.
They do a very fine job on our property and go out of their way to be sure
all is done in a fine way. If your lawn needs cutting twice; they do it.
Sometimes even three times when the grass is growing out-of-control. On
Thursday, August 21st at Noon we will show our appreciation for the crew’s
hard work and dedication to our community. We will provide hamburgers for
them and ask that if you are interested in showing your support that you
donate a dish for the event. We did this the last couple years and they
are very appreciative; so we’ve decided to repeat it again this year. If
you would like to help cook, set-up or clean-up; or serve; we would love
to have your help. It’s your way you can say thank you as well! There is a
sign-up sheet in the book, but if you want to come in and talk to me about
it; feel free!
I have received several prescription cards from American Consultants Rx
for discounts on brand name and generic drugs. It looks like you can use
these cards at about 50,000 pharmacies. It has unlimited usage and can
help you save on drugs not covered by other plans or even on diabetic
supplies. There is no enrollment, no pre-existing condition restrictions,
no fees and you can use it right away! I have them available in the office
if you’d like to pick one up and give it a try!
There are several trips that have been scheduled for the fall and winter
months. I have had several requests for Chorus Line and Jersey Boys; but
both of those shows in 2009 are not available yet for group sales. I’ll
keep watching and trying! I WAS ABLE to get Celine Dion tickets at The
Palace for Friday, September 26th with tickets ONLY $55. I only have 15
tickets but MUST sell them and know they will sell quickly; so commit now
to Celine and purchase your tickets immediately! Other events to keep your
eye on for more information are: Karaoke Party (Sept. 19th), Women’s Fall
Luncheon with the Petticoat Ladies, Say Goodnite Gracie at the Gem and
more! Watch for more information!

Remember to call Linda Foltz by August 7th for the August 13th Red Hat

(From the July, 2008 Board of Directors Meetings)
To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief
overview of some of the topics discussed at
each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics
from last month:
Association News
-
We have had reports of outside solicitors in Heritage in
the Hills. If anyone comes to your door Monday through Saturday between
the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., please notify Karen Reagan in the
office. She will see that the solicitors are escorted out of the
community. If this occurs after normal office hours or on Sunday, call
Karen on her cell phone (number is listed on the front of the
newsletter) and she will make the appropriate arrangements.
-
The Board is looking into the purchase of a defibrillator
for the clubhouse. The machine we are considering is extremely
user-friendly but a class will be offered to explain its operation if
the purchase is made.
-
We have had reports of unauthorized use of our swimming
pool after normal closing hours (10:00 pm). If you see or hear any
activity at the pool when it is closed, please call the manager or one
of the pool
operators (Nelson Davey, John Bell or Karen Reagan) and they will
respond immediately.
Architectural Review Committee
Bob Luttermoser met with a representative of the City of Auburn Hills
regarding the drainage situation at the entrance to Heritage. The city
promised to come up with a solution incorporating the storm drain
system. This may not be completed this fall but the city will attempt to
piggyback our problem with another city project.
Residents are reminded that ARC Applications are required for exterior
changes, landscape projects, and tree removal or additions.
Also, remember to check garage lights and replace any burned-out bulbs
and be sure your shrubs are not
blocking your outdoor garage lights.
The City of Auburn Hills has been in our Community and sprayed inside
the street drains for mosquito control.
