Special Recognition To Our Residents:
  • Have you noticed the bench right at the end of Heritage Drive? Thanks to Lew Robbins it looks like new! Lew has done a lot of work on this bench; sanded it and painted it and it looks fabulous! A very special and heartfelt thanks to Lew for his hard work to make our community beautiful! Your work is truly appreciated!

  • Talking about a beautiful community, how about all the beautiful flowers? The Garden Committee has been hard at work by planting all the flowers around all the benches in the community. They also have done the baskets at the gazebo and the pool. Do you like the two new baskets by the front door of the Clubhouse with the ferns? Thank the committee for this wonderful addition! Not only do they plant all these beautiful flowers, they maintain them throughout the summer by watering and pruning. Be sure to say thanks to these ladies when you see them: Bette McCullough, Bunny Harms, JoAnne Stroebel, Margaret Raschke, Jill Starwalt and Sharon Tosch. Special thanks to this committee for doing all this awesome work! A special thanks to all those that have volunteered to water. Well done ladies!

  • Also a warm thanks to everyone that helps to keep our community beautiful. I have seen walking residents stop and pick up garbage throughout the community. Really appreciate your help in keeping the community beautiful!

  • A warm thanks to Carolyn Williams who helped with the desserts served at the Heritage Belles and Beau’s concert last month. She cut up all that watermelon and then was there to serve everything and to clean up. Husband, Ron, was helping too! We appreciate your help and support.

I want to thank everyone for their thoughtfulness over the past years during Bill’s hard-fought battle with cancer. The flowers were beautiful (both at the funeral and during his illness). I want to thank everyone for their prayers, the many cheery visits, bringing in dinners and snacks, taking time to take Bill to Men’s Breakfast when he was able, running errands, visiting with him so I could run out a bit, many encouraging cards, giving their support in so many ways! We thank you one and all!

MORE THANK YOU NOTES TO SHARE:

  • Director Cyndy Snyder from The Crisis Pregnancy Center in Pontiac writes: I just wanted to thank you all again for all the beautiful baby things you made. And it’s just what we needed. The Lord bless you. You are such a blessing to us and our clients.

  • Alicia Nucilli, Activity Director from The Heatherwood Retirement Community shares: On behalf of the residents at The Heatherwood, we would like to thank the Heritage Belles & Beau’s for coming out to perform for us. Everyone enjoyed your concert very much! It is wonderful that you go out to perform in the community, especially since most of our residents aren’t able to go out in the community to enjoy musical events as they once did. You all did a great job. It is quite evident that it gives you much pleasure; so keep up the good work! We’d love to have you back during the holiday season if you can fit us into your busy schedule! Thank you once again for a beautiful afternoon of music and delight!

OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO RESIDENTS:

  • Our thoughts and prayers are with the Steele family after the death of resident, Bill. Bill lost the long fight of cancer in June. He sure was determined in his long fight. Bill will be sadly missed. To wife, Carolyn, and family; know you are in our hearts!

  • Our thoughts are with resident Nancy Fleischmann who lost her good friend (and pet dog), Buddy. We all remember when he joined us here at Heritage. Buddy will be surely missed. Our hearts are with you, Nancy!

SWIMMING POOL UPDATES

The Pool Hours have CHANGED! On Sunday evenings, the Pool will close at 8:00 pm and re-open at Noon on Monday. The rest of the week, the hours remain the same; 10 AM until 10 PM. This change has been made to assure time for proper pool maintenance. This change is effective immediately.

You have probably noticed that the pool has been closed in the past couple weeks for long periods of time. This has become necessary because of a continued problem with a showing of coliform. Someone or something is contaminating the waters and we are bewildered in trying to figure out what it is. The county has officially closed us until we can find the source of the problem and the coliform is gone. We ask that swimmers take extreme care in maintaining good personal hygiene and highly encourage showering before entering the waters. Please do not void while swimming. If you see any kind of unusual activity while at the pool, report it to the manager immediately. We are working very hard in trying to get this problem resolved, but we need your help in doing so! Please review the enclosure regarding pool emergencies. Your cooperation will help us have a safe environment for everyone. Your Pool Operators are not responsible for this problem and are working very hard to redeem it! We are just as frustrated as you and want to get back to regular pool hours ASAP! Thanks for your patience!

Ponderings From the Manager

There is a change in the calendar as posted in June. In July we were to have the Jazz Band here for a concert and a BBQ. As you will see, this event has been cancelled. It has been rescheduled for September, so watch the
calendar for more information next month. It was cancelled by the Jazz Band because of vacation scheduling. We all certainly understand summer vacation schedules! Our security company, Securitas, will be BBQing for us that day and providing the chicken. Sorry for the inconvenience of the change, but watch for this great event to occur in September!

In June we sponsored our first Spa-A-Go-Go. It was well attended and a huge success. The ladies have requested to do it again. I have talked with Kathy Andrews and we will schedule a second event in September. So, if you missed the first one, you’ll have another chance! Watch the calendar for the date!

For your information, the Clubhouse office hours are changed for the summer months (through September). The office hours remain the same Monday through Friday (9:00 am - 5:00 pm). Saturday and Sunday hours will be
2:00 - 5:00 pm.

There are a few upcoming events I’d like to mention. On July 16th there will be a representative at the Clubhouse from America by Rail talking about a Branson Trip by Rail. This trip was suggested by a resident (Lew Robbins). He will tell you all about the trip at that time. If we can get 40 people, we can have an exclusive trip just for Heritage residents. Otherwise we can join in trip already scheduled (in November of 2008). Please spread the word and come hear about this fantastic trip. Also on July 30th we are sponsoring a day coach bus trip to Shipshewana. The cost of $69 covers everything; including dinner. We need 25 to make the trip happen! Consider going now! We are scheduled to see a Tiger Game (vs. Baltimore Orioles) on August 14th. We have five more tickets to get our minimum so tell your neighbors and friends to sign-up TODAY! Those tickets are $50 and include the coach, the ticket and a $5 food voucher at the stadium. I am in the process of scheduling fall trips at this writing. We will be offering trips to see Goodnight Gracie at the Gem and Wicked at the Detroit Opera House. Watch the upcoming newsletters for these (and more) scheduled trips.

Just a few reminders this month:
  • First, notifying the gate when you are expecting someone at your home. Remember, you must call the gate to announce that you are expecting a guest or maintenance company. If you don’t call, please understand that the company or guest WILL BE DENIED entry if you do not answer your telephone when they appear at the gate for entry. It is also important that if your guest list has changed (perhaps you’ve deleted a name or two or would like to add a name or two), please stop by the gate or office and notify us so your card can be updated.

  • Secondly, remember while having your pet out in the community for a walk, the pet needs to be leashed. Although your pet may be friendly, a walker may startle your pet and they may respond with barking and or biting. Please help keep the community safe for everyone. Also please remember to ALWAYS be prepared to clean-up after your pet while walking; even on the common areas! Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated by everyone!

Summer is finally here! The pool has certainly been challenging this year, but we are working hard to get it under control. Hope you take time to come on down with your family and enjoy the special days at the pool. Enjoy!

(From the June, 2007 Board Meeting)

To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief overview of some of the topics discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from last month:

ASSOCIATION NEWS:
  1. The Board of Directors welcomed former Board member Bob Miller who has been appointed to fill the unexpired term of Larry Prior. Larry recently resigned from the Board for personal reasons. This term expires in October of 2008.

  2.  A letter was recently sent to all co-owners by our attorney detailing the status of the lawsuit. On June 17, 2008 our attorneys filed our appeal with regard to our lawsuit. We will communicate any developments to the community as they occur.

  3. An emergency occurred at our pool this month and, unfortunately, proper emergency procedures were not followed. Please look for additional information on this topic in this newsletter and also familiarize yourself with the pool rules and procedures so we are all prepared if another situation occurs. Remember to notify the manager and/or a pool operator any time an emergency occurs so proper procedure may be followed.

  4. There has been some concern among a few co-owners that the election procedures do not provide for totally secret ballots. The Board is reviewing these procedures and will make changes before the next election in
October. The changes will be communicated when ballots are mailed, if not before, so please be sure to read all communications from our manager.

FINANCIAL

Our Auditors have completed the analysis of our financial statements for the 2007 calendar year and found them to be accurate and in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles.

CLUBHOUSE

The Board of Directors has voted to raise the fee to $150 for rental of our clubhouse for private parties effective immediately. This fee will apply to all rentals regardless of the size of the party.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE

Landscaping

We have identified several trees on the property that need to be replaced and this work will be done shortly. Also, the City will be reminded that several of the newly planted trees along Tienken are dying and need to be replaced.

It was decided to move the horseshoe pit into the unused Bocce court which will make it easier for the grass cutters. The Bocce equipment will still be available for lawn bowling on the grassy area next to the horseshoe pit.

The Board is aware of the problem with the street drain at our exit onto Tienken Road. Bob Luttermoser is going to meet with the Auburn Hills DPS to see what the city can do to help us.
