Special
Recognition To Our Residents:
- Our Valentine Friendship Dinner, Dance and Social was
a very nice event thanks to many who helped! A special thanks to Dick
Hansen, Bob Luttermoser and John Bell who moved all the furniture around
to make room for dancing and the DJ. A warm thanks to Marian Hansen for
setting up the tables and organizing the “beauty” of it all. During the
dinner, a special thanks to Tom & Karen Flaherty, Olga Sibo and Domenic
Ferranti for the Food Preparation and getting the food to the table. And
Domenic; you really worked hard in helping clean-up! Thank you one and
all! It was a fun evening of good food, good music, great dancing and
music trivia! Thanks also to our favorite DJ, Billy D!
- Although a small crowd for our Chinese New Year
Celebration Lunch last month; we had a fun time! The food from Catering
by Katherine was clearly wonderful! Mouths are watering just thinking
about how good that Teriyaki Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Beef and
Broccoli was! And the Spring Rolls, rice and sherbet dessert was
wonderful as well! Thank you to everyone who helped by lending a hand. A
special thanks to Marv & Bunny Harms for cleaning off all thetables at
the end! Your help was certainly noticed and appreciated! Happy Year of
the Rat!

NEW EXERCISE CLASSES
CC Plus was here in February to introduce some new fun
exercise programs. We are happy to offer these exciting programs to you
beginning this month!
LINE DANCING
This is for the more mobile senior. Great fun, with music that will
have everyone up and dancing. Our low-impact line dance class can help
to improve flexibility and balance, as well as increased
cardiorespiratory endurance. CLASS IS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY’S @ 1:00
PM
TAI CHI
Tai Chi is especially well-suited for individuals who are looking for a
non-impact exercise. Great benefits are received from the ease and
safety of Tai Chi, compared to many other forms of exercise that strain
muscles and put stress on arthritic joints. Tai Chi’s slow, fluid,
weight-shifting movements improve bone strength, leg muscles, and
balance, leading to fewer falls. This class has been requested by many.
CLASS IS SCHEDULED FOR THURSDAY’S @ 7:15 PM
ZUMBA
This is a high-energy cardio dance class that melds Hindu, Arabic,
American, African and Latin beats with salsa, meringue, cha cha, samba,
hip-hop and belly dancing, among other International favorites.
Integrating slow and fast paced rhythm intervals with hip-twisting,
fat-burning moves, Zumba is full-body workout that leaves everyone
craving more, more, more! CLASS IS SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY’S @ 4:00
PM
AND HERE’S THE SCOOP!
These classes will begin the week of March 17th. This
means the Line Dance class begins on Tuesday, March 18th at 1:00 pm.
Zumba Gold Dance class begins on Wednesday, March 19th at 4:00 pm. Tai
Chi class begins on Thursday, March 20th at 7:15 pm. All classes will
occur in the ballroom, on the “exercise” side. Comfortable exercise gear
is suggested. Shoes should be supportive and rubber soled for all
classes. It is suggested you bring a bottle of water with you as well.
Classes will run for a 6-week session. Another class will be scheduled
immediately for the next 6-weeks if interest is still high and
attendance is good. Cost for each class is $40 for the complete session.
We need to have eight (8) participants signed-up and paid in order to
begin each class as scheduled. If you were at the introductory session,
instructors will be the same. Mickey will be teaching the Line Dance
class and the Zumba Gold Dance class. Cathy will be the instructor for
Tai Chi.
There was a lot of excitement after the introductory classes. Many other
residents also expressed interest. Now is the time to commit so that we
can offer these fun, exciting exercise programs. Be sure to SIGN UP NOW!

Ponderings From the Manager
Last month we celebrated Fat Tuesday. We served
Paczki’s at the Clubhouse and boy they were good with a hot cup of coffee.
It sure was nice to see so many of you come up and enjoy them. It was
great seeing those friendly faces! Thanks for coming up and visiting and
enjoying!
I would like to take a moment to thank our group of ladies who meet each
week in the craft room to do some wonderful sewing projects. They have
made flannel bibs for the nursing home on Squirrel. Pat Kleindl told us of
the need, brought one as a pattern; and the ladies went to work. What a
wonderful gift to our community. They have also made lots of flannel baby
receiving blankets and terry hooded towels for the Pontiac Pregnancy
Crisis Center. It is amazing the products they produce in a day’s time.
The Crisis Center will be thrilled with their hard work and donation.
These ladies are now in the process of putting together our first Heritage
in the Hills Quilt which you all donated squares too last fall. It is so
exciting to see this quilt come together with all your talents and skills.
It will be a totally awesome quilt to display and I can’t wait for them to
put it on display for all to see. What a great group of ladies doing such
awesome charity work. Thank you to Linda Foltz, Susie Foltz, Marian
Hansen, Marilyn Aldinger and Joan Huffmaster. Also a special thanks to the
knitters who have made donations of hats for patients at Crittenton
Hospital. This was a request for patients who lay and become chilled; that
wearing a warm hat helps keep the whole body warm and comfortable. That
request has brought in a large donation and we are so thankful! Marian
Hansen, Marilyn Aldinger, Joan Huffmaster and Nancy Branstner have done
the work on this project. Last month I suggested if others wanted to help
that donations would be accepted for these ladies to continue their
charity work. They purchase all their own materials for these projects.
They would welcome donations to help the cause. Thanks to Pat Kleindl who
made a donation to this group. They are most appreciative. Thanks ladies
for doing such a great job in everything. You make us proud!
As we all know, many snow bird residents have left their nest to head to
warmer, sunnier weather! But for those still here, bearing the cold, snow
and ice; we still have lots of fun things for you to do this month. Be
sure to take a look and sign-up to be part of the excitement. Don’t sit
home and look at the misery of the snow; get on up to the Clubhouse and
join us! Check out our socials and bus trips offered this month plus the
new exercise program that we are offering. I attended the introductory
class for the new exercise classes and they were just plain fun! There
were lots of laughs and enjoyment. And the Tai Chi is just what we need to
learn the rhythm of relaxation, stress relief, mirror our spirit and learn
to concentrate to bring body, mind and breathing together as one. I sure
hope you come check them out and give them a try.
Be sure to check out on the back page about our salt shortages and what
this can mean about our community streets, roads and sidewalks. Miller
Landscape and the association are working hard to keep the high standard
of snow and ice removal, but face it; it has been a hard, cold, nasty
winter! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call and ask
me! We are doing what we can to keep everyone safe for the rest of the
winter season. May it end SOON! Spring HAS to be just around the corner!
Just a few more things. The Yellow Book phonebooks have been delivered to
the clubhouse. Stop by during office hours and get yours. Also, we’ve
developed a new policy in the kitchen. Everyone handling food MUST wear
plastic gloves. There is a supply in the pantry closet. Please help us by
wearing gloves whenever you are handling food in the kitchen. Thank you!
Happy Easter!! Blessings to All!

ODDS
AND ENDS
ALL I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LIFE I LEARNED FROM THE EASTER BUNNY
Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.
Walk softly and carry a big carrot.
Everyone needs a friend who is all ears.
There’s no such thing as too much candy.
All work and no play can make you a basket case.
A cute little tail attracts lots of attention.
Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day.
Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits.
Keep your paws off other people’s jelly beans.
The grass is always greener in someone else’s basket.
To show your true colors you have to come out of your shell.
The best things in life are still sweet and gooey.
CELEBRATE NEW LIFE
Lilies
so white, Easter eggs bright,
church bells ringing, birds are
singing;
Celebrate New Life
Green grass growing, hyacinth showing,
empty tomb found. His promise resounds;
Celebrate New Life
Jelly bean treats, find a basket of sweets,
alleluia of praise with voices raised;
Celebrate New Life
Cards and greetings, families meeting,
springtime, the season, His
resurrection, the reason;
Celebrate New Life
ST. PATRICK’S DAY HISTORY AND EXPLANATION
- ERIN GO BRAGH - means “Ireland Forever” GAELIC - is
the Irish language.
- CELTIC - (pronounced keltic) is the culture of
Ireland, but has similar roots in Scotland and Wales, southwest England,
and Brittany in northwest France.
- GREEN - is associated with St. Patrick’s Day because
it is the color of spring, Ireland’s rolling countryside, and the
shamrock. Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle.
- LEPRECHAUNS - are Irish fairies usually described as
very short, grumpy, and mean old men often dressed like shoemakers with
cocked hats and leather aprons. The story is that every leprechaun has a
little pot of gold. If you see one, you have to keep both eyes on him
because if you glance away, the leprechaun will vanish.
- BLARNEY STONE - is set in the tower wall of Blarney
Castle in the village of Blarney. Legend is that people who kiss the
stone get the gift of blarney or persuasive eloquence. Kissers are
challenged because they have to lie on their backs and bend backward
over the edge of the parapet, holding onto an iron bar for support.
SNOW REMOVAL UPDATES - PLEASE USE CAUTION
As you are all aware, this winter has challenged us
with a season of hard inclement weather. There have been broken records
of snowfall, rain and ice. One result is that more salt has been used
throughout the state during these months of winter. The entire state;
actually the entire Midwest, is in a salt shortage. The state has a
small salt stock which is being reserved for the main highways and roads
throughout the state. This means we are also feeling that shortage and
will see a difference in our street plowing and saltings. THIS IS NOT
THE FAULT OF MILLER LANDSCAPE OR THE ASSOCIATION. It’s all due to the
hard winter we are experiencing here in the Midwest.
We ask that you use extreme caution upon leaving your home. You will
find patches of ice on your driveways, at the Clubhouse and throughout
the parking areas and streets. When we have snow, rain, higher
temperatures (which causes melting) and then freezing temperatures; it
is impossible to keep the areas ice free. The Association, along with
Miller Landscape, will continue to do the best we can under these
circumstances and ask for your extreme caution and understanding as we
get through the next six weeks or so of winter! Be safe and take extra
precautions. We are anxious to Swing Into Spring!
THANK YOU !
DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME BEGINS AND CHECK YOUR BATTERIES
DAY - “SPRING FORWARD, FALL BACK”
The
Energy Policy Act of 2005 extended the period of Daylight Saving Time.
Standard Time in each zone (in most places in the U.S.and Canada) is
advanced one hour from 2 am on the second Sunday in March until 2 am on
the first Sunday in November (November 2nd in 2008). This is a great
time to check and/or change batteries in smoke detectors, carbon
monoxide detectors, and other electronic devices. Remember to change
your clocks and batteries on Sunday, March 9th before you go to bed!
FULL MOON - MARCH 21ST
The
Colonial American name for March’s full moon is fish moon, also called
worm moon, sap moon, crow moon Lenten moon, or chaste moon. The Dakotah
Sioux name is moon when eyes are sore from the bright snow!
DIABETES ALERT DAY - March 25, 2008
his is a one-day call to action to alert people about
the risks of developing diabetes. The Diabetes & Nutrition Counseling
Center of Crittenton Hospital is offering a Trim & Tone for Diabetes
monthly exercise class. This one hour beginner level class uses
resistance tubing designed to develop muscular strength and endurance.
The work out challenges every major muscle. Call 248-652-5660 for more
information.
