Odds and Ends

Special Recognition To Our Residents:
  • A very special thanks to all the families who participated in our first Breakfast with Santa last month. It was a huge success! A very warm thank you to our Santa, Dick Siepielski. Dick was the most awesome Santa and did a great job in getting us all in the spirit of the holiday! Thank you Dick!

  • Our Holiday Open House in December was very well attended and was very nice. Thanks to all who brought dishes to pass, who lent a helpful hand with setting food out, with replenishing food and for cleaning up following the event. A special thanks to Nelson Davey who was busy all day making all those delicious punches! Thanks to everyone for making the event so special!

  • Our Annual Woman’s Holiday Tea & Luncheon in December was very successful and very well attended. It was such an enjoyable afternoon! The lunch was catered by Catering by Katherine; and it was the best chicken soup and chicken salad ever! The tables were decorated perfectly thanks to Diane McDaniel, Kay Kastran and Bette McCullough. Thanks to everyone who helped clear the tables, put everything away and cleaned up. It was such a wonderful way to enter into the Christmas week. Thanks to all!

  • Although our Cookie Exchange was very small this year; the ladies who were in attendance had a lovely afternoon; chatting and eating delicious treats! Thanks to Kathy Williams, Barbara Shrem and Joan Becker for sharing their delicious recipes with us!

6:00 pm - $5/Person

Dinner of pizza, bread sticks and salad will begin at 6:00 pm with some easy listening music being played. After dessert, an evening of Karaoke fun will begin! Choices of songs are widespread! However, we know we will find you singing along and tapping your feet to the great selection of songs! And we know you will be laughing and having a great time! We have great talent in this community and when everyone sings along; it’s just awesome! Hope you come join with us! See you there!

NOTES OF THANKS …
From Residents to Your Home

  • Sylvia Bucknavich writes: Dear Friends; Thanks so much for the flower arrangement, cards and calls during my recent recovery from surgery. No amount of Christmas lights can out-shine the thoughtfulness of Heritage in the Hills residents. Know that I treasure your friendship as one of the greatest gifts of the season. Thank you!

  • Jacquie Thomas fondly shares: Please thank all neighbors and friends in Heritage In the Hills for the lovely basket of flowers. I am slowly regaining my strength and the pain is decreasing after my recent back surgeries. I am most appreciative of everyone’s support during this difficult year. Thank you all!

  • Marv and Bunny Harms send their many thanks: Bunny and I wish to thank the many friends and neighbors who sent food and cards and helped during my hospitalization. The basket of cheery flowers was appreciated also. The trip back to recovery is bumpy but hopefully it will be accomplished soon! It is so heart-warming to be in such a caring community. Our wish for all of Heritage is to enjoy the entire holiday season. Again, many thanks for everything!

The Executive Director of:
LIGHTHOUSE OF OAKLAND COUNTY Sends His Most Sincere Thanks:

Thank you to Heritage in the Hills on behalf of the Lighthouse Emergency Services clients, Board of Directors, volunteers and staff for your generous in-kind donation of food. Without your generosity, many of our neighbors would have no food, clothing or shelter. In-kind donations help us provide our clients with fresh fruits and vegetables, personal hygiene products, clothing and food for the pantry so we can keep expenditures low and direct more revenue toward vital client services. This year Lighthouse celebrates 35 years of providing services to the
Oakland County community. We help people through financial instability by giving them the necessary tools to gain independence and self sufficiency. At Lighthouse we believe that providing people in need with continuing and financial education classes, prescription assistance, early childhood education, home buying seminars and services that help seniors stay independent as long as possible, makes our community stronger. Your donation certainly made a difference!

ANOTHER VERY WARM & SPECIAL THANK YOU!

All the Giving Tree gifts were delivered to Lighthouse of Oakland by Dick Kennedy, Craig Annis, Dick Hansen and Tom Rapp. Thank you gentlemen! Job Well Done!

GIVING TREE 2007

A very special thanks to all who so generously participated in the Giving Tree for Lighthouse of Oakland this year. We had 38 children/teens that gifts were donated too! These kids had a beautiful holiday thanks to your thoughtfulness. Thank you so very much! If you were a participant and would like a tax deduction form for income tax purposes, they are available in the Clubhouse office. Once again, thanks for sharing the real reason of the holiday and for making the holiday very special for these young boys and girls! Bless you all!

RESIDENTS IN OUR THOUGHTS …

Prayers for Continued and/or Quick Recovery To:

  • Norm Cloyd

  • Reid Steinmetz

  • Barb Eldridge

  • Marv Harms

  • Jacquie Thomas

  • Jack Kozlowsk

OUR DEEPEST AND MOST SINCERE SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILY OF RESIDENT, KATHERINE SMARSCH.
Katherine passed away in December quite unexpectedly. We will certainly miss her cheery disposition and great cooking! We will miss our friend! Peace!

Ponderings From the Manager

Just a reminder that if you notice a problem in the community (a street light out, missed garbage pick-up, slippery sidewalks, etc.), please call the Clubhouse office and report it. If the office is closed, please leave a voicemail and we will get to it as soon as possible. Please do not call and report these type of issues to the Gate House (front gate). They don’t handle these community concerns and only have to remember to report them to the office. Your cooperation in calling the Clubhouse office will help everyone! Thank you!

We have already had our share of that white four letter word ...SNOW! Remember that Miller Landscape will be in the community plowing but not until one inch of snow has fallen. They will be here upon slippery conditions as well; they’ve already done an outstanding job with the snowfall that we’ve already experienced. If you see any damage from the plows to your lawn (lawn pieces removed or sprinkler head damages), please just wait until the Spring to report it to the office.

Along with winter come some other reminders. The office Snow Policy states that if inclement weather exists when there is a scheduled bus trip, the trip will be automatically cancelled. If you have question about a trip, don’t hesitate to call the Clubhouse office and we will let you know if the trip has been cancelled. If the bus trip involved purchasing tickets, we will make every effort to have the trip rescheduled and/or monies refunded. This will not always be possible; but every effort will be done to try! For Clubhouse activities when there is inclement weather, listen to the Clubhouse voice mail for updates or call the Office.

We hear from the City of Auburn Hills that if you intend on voting through Absentee Ballot, you must re-register THIS YEAR ONLY. If you do not re-register, you will not receive the ballot this year! Once you sign-up again this year, your name will be added to the Permanent List, but you must re-register NOW! There was some kind of trouble in Detroit with an Absentee Ballot or Vote, so all of the neighboring cities have made this routine this year. So, if you are leaving town; be sure to stop by the city offices before you leave!

The Heritage Headlines has a new look this month. We are trying to cut back a few pages and not do so much repetition in the content. This will also cut back on copying and mailing costs. If you have comments; please share them with me! If something was “cut” that you felt was important, be sure to share it with me and we’ll be sure to discuss it. Either way, let me know what you think!!

2008! Where does the time go? Looking forward to a great new year ahead! Wishing you all the best of everything! Happy 2008!

PATCHES, THE CALICO CAT

The last week of February and three weeks of March, my husband and I will be traveling. We have a 3 1/2 year old calico cat that we cannot take with us. Patches is our best cat ever and likes being around people. She is a wonderful companion. Since we will be gone for a month, I am concerned she will be very lonesome. If anyone here in Heritage Hills would be interested in having Patches visit for a month in their home, I would appreciate a call. You could visit her and get acquainted with her before we leave! Thank you!

(From the December, 2007 Board Meeting)

A To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief overview of some of the topics
discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from last month:

ASSOCIATION NEWS:
  1. You will notice that the January newsletter is more compact than previous issues. The Board pre-viewed and approved this change which eliminates duplication of information, thereby reducing our costs to produce the monthly newsletter. You will still find all the features which make this such a great newsletter.

  2. The guardhouse has a new roof which completes the updates to this building. The guards now have a warm, attractive and dry place in which to work. Please feel free to stop in to see improvements when you are in the area.

  3. The new Christmas lighting at the front entrance looks great. We were able to re-use our old lights at the clubhouse which saved on our costs. The lighting plan allows us to add to the display in the future if we choose to do so.

CLUBHOUSE:

The kitchen update is complete. The wallpaper has been removed and the walls and woodwork have been painted to match the recently re-done craft room. It looks bigger and brighter. We are looking into adding a tile backsplash in the near future.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE:

Tree Removal: We are in the process of getting bids to remove dead trees in the common areas. The Board also plans on getting bids to purchase saplings to add to common areas where large numbers of trees have been removed.

The Board of Directors of Heritage in the Hills Homeowners Association extends our wishes for your good health and happiness in the New Year.

ODDS AND ENDS

TRASH PICK UP REMINDERS

Just a reminder that when you are putting your trash to the street, please be sure that all trash is put into a plastic bag before putting into a garbage can. On those blistery, windy days when the wind throws the cans around, this will keep the trash contained for pick-up. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our neighborhood in pleasant condition!
