Special
Recognition To Our Residents:
- A very special thanks to Ceil Kudla, Linda Foltz,
Carolyn Williams and Sue Ellen Miller who donated
delicious goodies for our Commemorating 9-1-1 to the Auburn Hills Fire

and enjoyed every last bite! Thanks also to Linda and Ceil for
accompanying us to the stations for delivery.
- A heartfelt thanks and warm hugs to Linda Foltz,
Marian Hansen and Diane McDaniel for doing all the setting up for our
Ladies Fall Luncheon last month. It was a huge success thanks to these
ladies! Also a special thanks to Terri Ricketts and Terry Reagan for
cutting up all those melons! Pat Kleindl stepped in and helped with the
coffee and came back to help with all the cleaning up. Special thanks to
you too, Pat! Thanks for making the event so successful!
- The Garden Committee would like to thank the many
volunteers who helped out throughout the summer in keeping the flowers
watered and healthy at the pool area and at the benches throughout the
community. They were certainly beautiful thanks to all of you! Also a
very special thanks to Joe Kleindl who has been watering our trees
throughout the summer. Great job, Joe! Thanks for your help!
- A very helpful little elf was busy at the Clubhouse
last month. Like in a flash, the oven was cleaned and scrubbed; and
looks brand new! Thank you to our secret elf for the great job in

NOTES OF THANKS …
From Residents to Your Home
- John Allasio writes: It would be wonderful if I could
personally thank everyone in Heritage in the Hills for the beautiful
basket of flowers sent to me during my recent surgery. Since that is
impossible, here is a really big THANK YOU to all of you. To those of
you who sent “get well” cards, who checked up on me via the telephone,
and who visited me in the hospital as well as at home … your
thoughtfulness was truly greatly appreciated!
Many thanks!
- Loretta Oros fondly writes: Thank you ever so much
for the bright and cheery floral arrangement, cards, and phone calls.
They are all deeply appreciated. We are blessed abundantly to be living
in such a caring and loving community. We are family!
- A note from Jacquie Thomas to Marian Hansen and the
Knitters of Heritage in the Hills upon delivery of a Heritage Comfort
Shawl: I can’t tell you how timely this beautiful shawl was. It was the
week that Ben’s absence was overwhelming; but this beautiful shawl, made
by my dear neighbors, gave me great comfort. Please thank each lady and
tell them that each stitch is like a gentle warm hug. I am so grateful
for your thoughtfulness. A million thanks!
- Dawn from Morgan Stanley writes: Thank you for the
opportunity to come to Heritage in the Hills in September. I really
appreciate the warm hospitality received and enjoyed your beautiful
facility. Thank you for allowing me to come in and speak to your
residents. I enjoyed the opportunity!

Ponderings From the Manager
By now you have all received the notice of the
upcoming Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of Heritage in the
Hills. It is on Tuesday, October 23rd at 7:00 pm at St. John Fisher
University Parish on Walton and Squirrel in Auburn Hills. You have also
received the ballot for your voting for four Board members. Please return
your ballot to the Clubhouse office as soon as possible. If you’d like,
there will be envelopes available in the lobby to put your ballot in
before turning into the office. Ballots are coming in very well since they
were received this week. THANK YOU! The results of the vote along with the
2008 Annual Budget will be presented at the Annual Meeting. Hope to see
you all on October 23rd at 7:00 pm!
Miller Landscape will continue to cut grass as needed in October. The
Compost pick-up on Wednesdays will continue throughout the month as well.
As the leaves continue to fall, they will be picked up as grass cutting
occurs. Now is the time to see if your street trees need trimming or
elevating. If you can’t walk under it; it needs to be trimmed. Contact
Miller directly to schedule an appointment to have your trees done. A
letter will be coming out shortly to several residents who have sprinkler
head concerns from Miller. These sprinkler heads are set “to close” to the
sidewalk or driveway which causes concern when edging or for snow removal
with the plow. Upon receipt of this letter Miller will not replace these
heads without the suggested maintenance done if they are damaged while
they work. This is “general” maintenance of your system. Should you have
any questions upon receipt of the letter, please don’t hesitate to contact
me in the office with your concerns.
Just a note concerning those homes with generators. Please be sure that
your generator TEST MODE is scheduled to occur between the hours of 9:00
am and 9:00 pm. We have received some concerns from residents where the
testing is occurring in the very early hours of the morning. Your
cooperation in making sure it happens between these times will be greatly
appreciated by all!
It has come to our attention that several homeowners have had their large
bathroom mirror come crashing down in the past couple months. It is our
understanding that these mirrors were installed with a glue that is now
drying and the mirror is pulling away and falling. For safety measures it
would be a good idea to have support brackets installed in the corners and
along the sides of that mirror. If you look at your mirrors in the
bathroom and see no visible brackets, please consider installing them at
your earliest convenience. This is merely a suggestion before the glue
hardens and your mirror falls off the wall too! If you have a problem with
your mirror, give me a call and I can give you the name of the company
that installed it when your home was built.
A resident stopped in the office last month and suggested that if people
are looking for handy men to do work around their homes that they call or
stop in to Dillman and Upton Home Center n Rochester. They have many
available who can be hired to do jobs around your home. Dillman and Upton
is located at 607 Woodward. Their phone number is 248-651-9411. What a
great idea! Give them a call if you are looking for something specific and
see if they can help!
As of this writing, the pool and spa will be closed for the season. What a
great swim year it was! I thank employee John Bell for being a great pool
operator and in taking care that the area was always at it’s best. A
special thanks also to Nelson Davey who worked hard in keeping the pool
clean and stable as well. It’s always sad to see the pool close for the
year because we only know what is ahead of us. We wonder how long before
that blue cover is covered with ice and snow! It truly was a beautiful
season; lots of warm sunshine this summer. I hope you all were able to
enjoy the pool and spa and know you’ll all miss it like I will! Thank you
all for adhering to all the pool rules all season and for making the
season memorable! The pool says .. “see you next year”!
As a reminder, with the first of October comes some changes. The Clubhouse
office hours will be changing. The hours will now be: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Monday through Friday. Saturday hours will be 10:00 am - 2:00 pm and the
office will closed on Sunday except when there is a scheduled event. As
always, be sure to carry your Clubhouse key with you when your coming to
the Clubhouse. If the office is closed, the doors will be locked and
you’ll need it to enter. And for those snow birds packing their bags to
get out of town before the snow flies, be sure to stop in and pick up a
form to sign so that we have your emergency information and so that we can
send you a newsletter while your gone! We don’t keep the forms from
year-to-year so you have to fill out a new one now! They are available in
the library if you come when the office is closed. Just complete it and
drop it under the door if we aren’t available. Really hate to see you all
leave but wish you all safe travel and a happy and peaceful winter season.
Can you believe it’s already October? Where has the time gone? It seems
like just last month I was welcoming summer here and we were anticipating
nice warm weather. As you all know, this is my most favorite time of year
so I am pleased to have October here. I’m just not sure how it happened so
quickly! As we head into the fall season and prepare our hearts for the
upcoming holidays, it brings to mind the beauty of it all. Fall with the
beautiful colors and crisp weather. Then Thanksgiving (hoping you’ll join
us for our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner with our neighbors and friends at
Heritage); a warm and peaceful holiday for families and friends. Then the
Christmas holiday with all the hussle and bussle of it all; which brings
love and joy to our hearts. I wish peace, joy and love to you all as we
enter into these fall and winter months.
And with winter around the corner, it just wouldn’t be
right NOT to think, “Let it Snow; Let It Snow; Let It Snow”!

GREAT AMERICAN FIRE DRILL
Sponsored by the National Fire Protection
Association for Fire Prevention Week
John Burmeister, Fire Marshal for the city of Auburn Hills has asked
that all Auburn Hills residents participate in this event. To
participate, every resident needs to draw the floor plan to their home,
indicating a place outside of the home where everyone can meet. All
members of the household need to know the plan. On October 13th at 5:00
pm, the family should practice their fire escape plan. They will be
driving through participating neighborhoods looking for participants to
give a small gift. They have put a Home Escape Plan (grid) and further
information on the city web home page at
http://www.auburnhills.org. If you plan to participate in this
program, you should register with the city or at
phassett@auburnhills.org.
Or you can send a copy of your escape plan, including your address to
Auburn Hills Fire Department at 1827 N. Squirrel, Auburn Hills, by
October 7th. NFPA is hoping to have the world’s biggest fire drill.
Every household counts, so let’s get involved! If you plan to
participate, please let Karen know in the Clubhouse office. She will
gladly call the City to notify them of your participation.

(From the September, 2007 Board Meeting)
To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief
overview of some of the topics discussed at each month’s Board meeting in
the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from last month:
ASSOCIATION NEWS:
-
The parking lot has been re-sealed and striped and the new
speed limit signs have been installed throughout the community. As a
safety measure, the Board voted to replace all stop signs throughout
Heritage with regulation stop signs. We ask that you drive responsibly and
be watchful for walkers and bicyclists when driving through Heritage.
-
The Board is aware of the offensive odor at the corner of
Squirrel and Tienken. Two of our residents have been in touch with the
City of Auburn Hills regarding the lack of drainage and smell, with
limited success.
The Board is planning on attending a City Council meeting in an attempt to
resolve this matter. We will keep
you advised of our progress. .
CLUBHOUSE:
-
New signs have been ordered for our bus. The signs will
include the Heritage in the Hills logo and show our
address as Auburn Hills, Michigan.
-
We are going to be doing a significant amount of work at
the front gates. The asphalt will need to be cut and
the sensors for the entrance and exit gates will be encased to protect
them from further damage. We will
attempt to inconvenience residents and guests as little as possible and
ask for your patience as this work is
done.
-
A “Meet the Candidates” night is going to be scheduled
before the upcoming Board elections. We hope you
will come and meet your neighbors who are on the ballot.
-
The Board decided to close the pool on October 1st this
year. We hope you were able to take advantage of
the extra month of usage. .
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE:
Pond Maintenance:
The fountain has been installed at the north pond and is now working. We
appreciate the patience of the residents who were affected by this work
and hope they are enjoying the fountain. Weed control around both north
and south ponds has been completed by cutting and spraying the problem
weeds.
Landscaping:
The City of Auburn Hills will be replacing the dead trees along Tienken
Road. This work should be completed this fall.
DO YOU HAVE DEAD TREES THAT NEED TO BE CUT THIS WINTER?
The
Association is currently reviewing the trees in the common areas to
determine which are dead and need to be cut down for safety reasons this
winter. If a resident has a dead tree on their property which they want to
remove and take advantage of favorable pricing, contact the Clubhouse
Office for information. Now is the time to mark the trees before the
leaves fall on the surrounding healthy trees. Complete an ARC Application
citing the trees to be cut down and turn it into the office by October
31st. Plastic ribbon for marking is available at the office. You will be
notified of the cost estimate in late November. At that time you can
decide if you want to have the work done. Remember for any tree removal
you must have an approved ARC Application.
