NOTES OF THANKS …
From Residents to Your Home

  • Rita Springfellow writes: Thanks to all at Heritage who sent cards, flowers and phoned while I was in the hospital. You just never know when you will be on the receiving end of care from your friends and neighbors. Heritage friends keep an eye out for one another, and make an extra effort to encourage that person. You all have been there to encourage and help us, and I truly feel blessed.

  • Claire Emmons shares: Dear Friends and Neighbors, Thank you, thank you, thank you! This must be the
nicest place in the world to live. You have raised my spirits with cards, flowers and food. The company and the phone calls in the hospital were very much appreciated. You all make being sick not as difficult as it could have been. Thank you all for being there. Cyndi also says thank you. Being the only sibling here has been hard for her and you all have made it easier for her. I love you all and I hope you all know just how much!

  • Rose and Domenick Ferranti both share: Rose says: Thank you to everyone for all your loving care and concern during my recent surgery. Thank you for the flowers, cards and kind words. I am getting stronger by the day and look forward to getting back to Heritage in the Hills. Thanks again! And Domenic says: I can’t thank everyone enough for all the care, concern and support while Rose has been in the hospital and now in rehab. We have appreciated all the calls, cards, food and love shown. Thank you neighbors for being so special to us during this time!

  • Chris DeGroot shares her thoughts and thanks: Dear Heritage Friends, I don’t even know how to begin to thank everyone for all of their care and concern during my recent illness. I have been truly overwhelmed with the responses from all of you. Each of you has made my recovery so much easier with all of your demonstrations of love. Flowers, cards, food, visits, and all the wonderful offers of help and assistance have truly touched my heart. Heritage in the Hills is a beautiful community and it is enriched by such special people as all of you. Thank you for touching my life in such an inspiring way. I’m feeling better and count my blessings .. including each of you. Thank you for everything!

Ponderings From the Manager

First I have a few reminders for everyone! Be sure to check your garage carriage lights after dark to be sure they are working properly. A trip around the neighborhood shows that many are not working. Letters will be issued in early August if your lights are not working. The lights are an important part of our community! Please be sure to do your part in making sure yours are in working order! Another reminder is regarding the pool. It’s never a good idea to swim alone! Be sure that if you are swimming or taking it easy by sitting in the spa for awhile that someone else is in the pool area. This is just for your own safety!

We will be doing another appreciation luncheon this month for Miller Landscape workers on Wednesday, August 16th at Noon. I welcome your help by donation of food or helping preparing or cleaning up. We will also be inviting the security guards for an afternoon at the pool with their immediate family. We will be doing a luncheon for them and then let them enjoy the pool for a little while. This event will occur on Friday, August 25th at 1:00 pm. I welcome your help with this event as well! Having pot luck dishes brought down shows them that the whole community is aware of their work and they feel everyone’s appreciation! Both Miller and Securitas employees are very dedicated to Heritage. This just a small way we can thank them for their hard work. Sign-up to help or bring a dish in the book.

Many of you are aware that we are now locking the kitchen door when we leave the clubhouse for the day. If we are aware of an evening event at the clubhouse, we will leave it open for your usage. Please assist us in pulling the kitchen door shut (making it sure it is locked) and closing the shutters when you are done in the kitchen. Our goal is to try to protect the things we have in the kitchen, not to keep you out of it while you have an event in the evening! Please also remember to return the thermostats to their original position and shut off all lights as you leave the clubhouse. There have been improvements in these areas .. thank you for your help and support!

We are going to be doing a new “form” to our Resident Directory. We would like to have a photo directory much like that of a church-type directory. It will include a small picture, the address, phone number and email address of all residents. Photo’s will be taken at the clubhouse on specific dates in September and will be produced in black and white. Won’t this be a nice thing when you’ve met someone new in the  community and can’t remember their name?! I encourage everyone to have their photo taken and to participate; however if you would prefer not too have your picture taken; then just the other information will be included in the directory. Sign-up at the clubhouse now to participate and get your photo taken. The directory will be for distribution only to residents and will not be used for any other purpose. The Resident

Listing as we now know it will still be available for those of you that have it on your computers and is also available on the website. Did you know that the newsletter and calendar is there every month too? Check it out! Any questions on the directory, please see me in the office!

THE RED HAT HOT HONEYS HAPPENINGS

If you have any questions call either Janice Mosesso at 248-475-7850 or Willie Swayze at 248-475-0012

The weather was perfect, albeit a little warm. However, a nice breeze kicked up occasionally to cool us off as we lunched under a canopy of shade trees while listening to some live folk music in the park in Auburn Hills. Thanks go to Dottie Buran and Briggi Williams for providing the idea, planning and executing our July activity.

Jane Brennan has made arrangements for our August activity. The Red Hats will go Irish with lunch at Gus O’Connor’s in downtown Rochester. The date is set, August 10th and fliers are available on the Red Hat credenza with all the details. Please pick one up and RSVP to either Jane at 340-2476 or Janice at 475-7850.

Rose Normandin and Margaret Gibson have planned our September activity. It will be on the 14th with a trip to the Rochester Hills Museum at the Van Hoosen Farm. Lunch will be at Europa Bistro. Watch the credenza for a flier sometime in mid-to-late August.

“Winding up in the bull pen”, a little baseball jargon since the Tigers are doing so well, are Linda Foltz and Sylvia Bucknavich. They are getting things in place for our October activity.

Willie has been putting together materials for our workshop in November. Rosemary Sharland is her able assistant and with our help the results will be beautiful. The date and details will follow in the October newsletter.

All twelve months are open for activities in 2007. If you would like to plan something for a particular month, please call me at 475-7850.

In Friendship, Janice Mosesso

(From the July, 2007 Board Meeting)

To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief overview of some of the topics
discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from last month:

CLUBHOUSE:
  1. Miller Landscaping has completed landscape maintenance on all islands within the community. Miller will begin spraying weeds and mulching around all trees in common areas. A resident requested that Miller spray for weeds along residents’ sidewalks and driveways. If you would like this service, Miller has agreed to do this work for homeowners at a charge of $5 per residence.

  2. The Garden Club had seventeen residents agree to show their gardens for the garden walk. We hope you all had the opportunity to participate in this walk and enjoy the beautiful gardens in Heritage in the Hills (there were 24 walkers participating).

  3. Our manager welcomes suggestions for clubhouse activities and trips outside the community. If you have ideas, Karen welcomes hearing them! (or share them with any Board member).

  4. Trips to Ikea, Meadowbrook Music Festival, Purple Rose Theater, the Tigers game and the River Crab Cruise have proven to be very popular with residents this month. Hazel Park Raceway trip was very popular as well but was cancelled by the track. It has been rescheduled in August. There is still room on the Shipshewana trip if you are interested in going. Remember to sign-up early for activities so you don’t miss out on the fun.

  5. A committee has been formed to look into purchasing new chairs for the card room. They visited a vendor who has ordered two sample chairs for all to evaluate.

SWIMMING POOL:

To ensure that our swimming pool is being used only by residents and their guests, the clubhouse and pool gate will be locked when the office is closed. Residents will need to bring their clubhouse key after normal office hours to enter the clubhouse and pool area via the clubhouse. Please use the door nearest the exercise room to go out to the pool area.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE (ARC):

  1. Fifty-seven trees on residents’ property and 42 trees in common areas will be replaced. Residents who are affected have received letters detailing trees available and cost to remove dead trees and plant new trees. Several trees in common areas will also be pruned. Miller Landscaping has also agreed to provide pruning service for resident trees for a fee. Please contact Karen if you are interested in this service.

  2. The ARC toured the community with Bob Miller of Miller Landscape. It was noted that many of the resident's trees do need pruning this season. Branches are growing too low throughout the back and front yards plus some are interfering with sidewalk pedestrians and should be trimmed. Residents are encouraged to examine their trees and prune where necessary.

  3. The staining of mailboxes and installation of metal around the bases has been completed throughout the entire community. All the mailbox posts are sturdy, protected at the base and look great. Thanks to Fox Brothers for a job well done!
