Ponderings From the Manager
Summer has hit us hard and fast, hasn’t it? Miller Landscape had a hard
beginning for the first couple weeks with rain fall. It made everyone
confused as to the “regular” cutting schedule! Sorry about that! But they
have been on regular schedule now and I must admit, the community is
looking beautiful! I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful flowers
throughout the community. Not only has Miller been working hard, but our
very own Garden Committee has too! They have planted flowers at all the
public benches in the community and the baskets in the pool area. The
committee members are recognized on the front page of this newsletter, be
sure to say thank you to them when you see them throughout the community!
The gazebo at the clubhouse looks beautiful too. Be sure to stop by there
and sit awhile, enjoying the beauty of the community. While sitting there
be sure to look at the golf green. We have had it worked on and cleaned.
The ball cups have beenreplaced and a special treatment applied to control
the moss.
We are continuing two community projects .. Quilt Squares and Cookbook
Recipes. If you haven’t heard, we are going to be making (and then
displaying) our first Heritage Quilt. Everyone is asked to decorate a
quilt square (available at the clubhouse) and then they will be sewn
together and the quilt will be hung in the craft room. If you haven’t yet
made a quilt square; time is getting short! It will run only through the
month of June; so act quickly! Many of the quilt squares have already been
done and they are turning out beautiful! We left them out on display in
the craft room, however one was “misplaced” from the finished pile. If,
perhaps, you have taken a square home to use as a sample; please return it
as soon as possible. We are looking for the missing square!! If you know
anything about it, please talk to me about it! I thank you! Also we need
more recipes! If you saw our first copy of the cookbook, it was wonderful!
We want to have enough recipes to make it worthwhile .. so get out your
favorites, copy them and get them over to the office! We will be asking
for recipes through July; but don’t let the time get away from you! Do it
now! You don’t have to use the “official” recipe form; you can just copy
your recipe and put your name on it and turn it in. Or you can just write
it on a recipe card or piece of paper. It really doesn’t matter; just get
it to the office! You will be proud to have your name and your recipes
included in our second Heritage Cookbook! The completed cookbooks will be
available for purchase in the fall; just in time for the holidays! What a
great gift for that person who has everything! A book full of our favorite
recipes! Please participate and get your recipes in as soon as you can!
Thanks!!
The craft room and its paint job has been completed. I hope you stop in
and take a look. I’m sure you will think it looks lovely. Between the new
chairs in the game room, the rearrangement of the furniture, the “country
garden” feel to the outer lobby and the craft room being painted; the
clubhouse is looking quite beautiful! Stop by on your walk around the
neighborhood and take a peek! There still will be some minor “decorating”
done (rearranging) but overall, it is certainly pretty! Let me know what
you think! And of course it’s summer; so I must also talk about the pool
and spa! We will do our best to keep the pool area as safe as we can
throughout the summer. There will be occasions, however, that the pool or
spa will need to be closed because of maintenance or chemical problems. We
will do our best to get things operating as quickly as possible; but
please be patient with us during this time! Remember, we aren’t enjoying
it either! If you see the “Pool Closed” sign on the gate; we ask your
cooperation. If you’d like to stop in at the office, we will be happy to
call you once everything is in operation again. Please remember that any
guests coming to the pool MUST be accompanied by the resident. A guest
without the homeowner will be asked by the Pool Operator to leave. There
are no exceptions to this rule! Your cooperation will be most appreciated
throughout the pool season! The pool area looks so welcoming! Sit back,
relax and enjoy!
This month I only have a couple community reminders. PLEASE slow down
while driving through the community! Especially this time of year when
there are lots of walkers, joggers and bike riders! Slow down and drive
safely! Also a reminder while you are out walking your pets, please
remember to clean-up after them! Everyone will appreciate that! When you
come into the exercise room, feel free to turn the temperature lower for
your comfort. Just remember to turn it up before you leave! And be on the
watch! The Elliptical Trainer is on it’s way! It should be here in a week
or two! Have a wonderful June .. and be sure to take time to smell the
roses!

(From the May, 2007 Board Meeting)
To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief
overview of some of the
topics discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter.
Here are some topics from last month:
ASSOCIATION NEWS
- We have scheduled a General Meeting of the Heritage
in the Hills Association to be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 7:00
p.m. at the new Apostolic Church on Squirrel. Our attorneys will be
present at the meeting to provide an update on our lawsuit. Additional
information on this meeting will be sent out shortly.
- The Board is obtaining quotes to re-pave the entrance
area because the pavement is breaking-up and cracking due to the heavy
vehicular traffic. This also has caused problems with the gate sensors.
CLUBHOUSE
- The Board has authorized the purchase of an
Elliptical Trainer for the exercise room.
- Work has begun on the remodeling and repair of the
craft room.
- The fence around the pool has been painted and work
will begin shortly on the gate house.
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE
POND MAINTENANCE: The Board authorized the
installation of an electric meter and the purchase of a pump for the
north pond. This work will be completed shortly.
LANDSCAPING: The trees along Heritage Drive have been sprayed for
fungus. Compost pickup has begun. Pickup day is Wednesday. Please place
compost in appropriate bags and have them at the curb no later than
10:00 a.m.
SWIMMING POOL UPDATES & NEWS
When coming to the pool, remember to bring your
clubhouse key with you. If the office is closed and the alarm is set,
you will need your clubhouse key to get into the rest rooms and showers.
When you enter the pool area, please be sure to sign-in and as you exit,
please write the time you are exiting. The reason for this procedure is
so that we accurately determine the swim load for the day. You should
also have your swim passes in view (on your swim bag for example). You
do not need to wear the swim pass on your clothing. If you have extra
guests coming who desire to swim, simply call the Clubhouse office for
permission.
Children’s Swim Time is from 2:00 - 5:00 pm, Sunday through Saturday.
Children are identified as those 12 years of age and younger. Children
of these ages are NOT allowed in the spa (this is a State Law and will
be strictly enforced). All guests to the pool area must be accompanied
by the homeowner at all times.
The pool water is kept at approximately 84 degrees while the spa is at
104 degrees. Remember, there is no eating/snacking on the pool deck. No
glass products allowed on the pool deck. Food and drinks can be served
on the upper deck. No alcoholic beverages allowed while in the spa.
Please come down, sit back and relax and enjoy the pool area! Enjoy the
beauty of it all! If there are any problems or concerns regarding the
pool area, don’t hesitate to talk to Karen or John Bell, your two
Certified Pool Operators. Enjoy!

MY FATHER WHEN I WAS ….
4 years old:
My daddy can do anything.
5 years old:
My daddy knows a whole lot.
6 years old:
My dad is smarter than your dad.
8 years old:
My dad doesn’t know exactly everything.
10 years old:
In the olden days when my dad grew up, things were sure
different.
12 years old:
Oh, well, naturally, father doesn’t know anything about
that. He is too old to remember his childhood.
14 years old:
Don’t pay any attention to my father. He is so
old-fashioned!
21 years old:
Him? My Lord, he’s hopelessly out-of-date.
25 years old:
Dad knows a little bit about it, but then he should because
he has been around so long.
30 years old:
Maybe we should ask Dad what he thinks.
35 years old:
I’m not doing a single thing until I talk to Dad.
40 years old:
I wonder how Dad would have handled it. He was so wise and
had a world of experience.
50 years old:
I’d give anything if Dad were here now so I could talk this
over with him. Too bad I didn’t appreciate how smart he was! I could have
learned a lot from him!
HAPPY FATHERS DAY!!
GE DISHWASHER
RECALL
On May 16th, General Electric announced a recall of 2.5 million GE
built-in dishwashers manufactured from 1997 to
December, 2001. This will affect many residents of Heritage in the Hills.
Over several years, normal use of liquid rinse aid in some models results
in a concentration on the wires inside the dishwasher door. In affected
models the rinse aid can degrade the wiring inside the door which can
cause an electrical short, overheating or a fire if the wire comes in
contact with the metal door. GE has received 135 reports of overheated
wiring and 56 reports of property damage due to fires that escaped the
dishwasher. GE will do a free repair of affected dishwashers or give a
rebate toward the purchase of a new dishwasher ($150 for GE models; $300
for GE Profile or Monogram models).
Letters are being sent, but you can check to see if your dishwasher is
part of the recall by going on-line to
http://www.geappliances.com and checking out the recall section. Enter
your model number and serial number in the section indicated. (Model and
serial numbers can be found on the inside front left side). If affected,
you can schedule a repair or download a rebate form. You can also call the
Recall Hotline (1-877-607-6395) Monday through Saturday, 8 am—8 pm EDT.
Before calling, have the model and serial number on hand. It may be
difficult to get through due to the volume of calls. It is important that
you check your dishwasher for this recall! Many residents have found that
their machine is one of those being recalled and have already scheduled
their service call. Thanks to Bernie Ris and Carolyn Williams for sharing
this information with us!.
