Ponderings From the Manager
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL!
As we enter into 2007; I’d like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy,
joyful, and peaceful new year. Hope it will be a great one for
everyone! We brought 2007 in with a bang (literally) at the clubhouse at
the New Years Eve party. What a great party that was with great music
(thanks to our DJ, Bill), good food and service (thanks to Traveling Chef
Catering) and great friends and neighbors! It was certainly a pleasure to
bring in the new year with all of you. You all made the night special! It
was great fun! If you missed the party this year; consider joining us next
year when we repeat the festivities!
This winter has proved to be unconditionally mild. Can you believe the
golfers are still out on the courses? In January? Wow; now that’s a record
for January in Michigan! However, the reality of winter will be displayed
soon with the snow, ice, freezing rain or a drifting mixture of all of the
above. I would like to review the policy once more so everyone has a clear
understanding of the snow removal process. Plowing will begin when there
is at least a one inch of snow accumulated.
PLEASE REMEMBER NOT TO PARK ON THE STREET WHEN IT SNOWS! If you
have a parked vehicle in the driveway, please be aware that Miller is NOT
contracted to shovel around cars by hand; they must plow driveways. Snow
will be removed from sidewalks leading to front porches but not from
porches. Please pick up newspapers from the driveway or sidewalks before
plowing begins. The public sidewalks will be the last thing plowed after
all streets and homes are done. Miller will have more equipment and men
on-site than ever before; hoping to be able to clean up snow falls in a
timely manner. However, please demonstrate some patience with them! They
will do their best in getting everyone out as quickly as possible. Also,
just for your information, Calcium Chloride will be applied to your
driveways and sidewalks if needed. The main roads will be salted. No salt
will be used on your driveways. As always, if you incur any problems with
snow removal, please call me at the office. If you find some lawn damage
due to snow plow usage; please wait until the spring to report it. It will
be repaired by Miller at that time. And hey, instead of sitting and
complaining about the snow fall; get out there and enjoy it! Step outside
and make a snow ball and throw it at your tree in your yard. Enjoy how
quiet the world gets when there is a good snow fall. Enjoy the beauty of
it all! After all, it is January; so I’ll say once more “let it snow; let
it snow; let it snow!” We are ready!
For all of you that are headed south, please remember that you can access
the Resident Roster and all of the newsletters and calendars on the
computer. The website is
http://www.heritageinthehills.com. Remember there is a filename and
password needed to access the Resident Roster. If you’ve forgotten what
they are; please give me a call and I’ll gladly remind you. If you would
like the winter issues of the newsletter mailed to you; stop on by the
clubhouse or give us a call and we will take your address and be sure we
mail you a copy. We want you to keep updated with what is happening in the
community! While you are gone, if you’d like to sign-up for a future
event, just call the office and we will be happy to assist you with that.
Wishing you all a safe and happy winter season!
As another year ends and I reflect back to all the exciting things that
have happened at Heritage, I feel compelled to say thank you to so many
that have helped make my position so successful. Perhaps you helped with
an event; or came in and spent some time with me while giving me
encouragement; or perhaps you suggested an idea for an event or trip; or
stopped in to have a cup of coffee with me. It certainly has been a
pleasure to work with all of you and building so many wonderful
friendships. I appreciate all your ideas, all your suggestions, all your
support, all your help, and all of your friendship! Please continue as we
enter into 2007! If you have ideas for a social or event, or for a trip
(long or short); please come talk to me about it! I try to offer a variety
of things; trying to find something for everyone but if I’m not meeting
your needs; please come talk to me! If you’d like to take an active part
with activities; please let me know! I would love to have your support and
assistance! There will be a new evaluation form being used to know how you
enjoyed an event. There is a space to include if you’d like to help with
other events. Please consider! It’s lots of helpful hands that make these
events so successful! We would just like to continue to get better and
better; and to do that I need to know what it is you would like! So, talk
to me! Stop on in and have a cup of coffee; sit on down and let’s laugh
and share and brainstorm! Hope to see many stopping’ on in!
I must apologize for the newsletter getting out a little later this month.
With all the holiday hustle and bustle; it’s been difficult to find the
time to work on it! On the calendar each month you will find that it
carries into the beginning of the next month. I hope you have recognized
that and count on it at times like this! I was hoping to use our new
copier this month; however that will happen with the February delivery.
For those of you that have come into the office to use the copier and have
laughed with me at the way the old machine operated (and heard all that
mumbling under my breath); you will be so pleased to see the new copier we
have just received. It does everything and very easily! I thank the board
for recognizing the need for this update. We will all appreciate it! Stop
on in and take a look!
Just an FYI about the new Picture Directory. We have waiting until after
the new year to proceed with this project. I’m sure by next month you will
see the finished project! Thanks for being patient with us on this! Also,
I’m thinking about doing another Heritage Cookbook. Are you interested? Be
sure to let me know what you think. It’s been a couple years now since we
did the last one; think it’s time again? I’ll be waiting your response!
Let me know your thoughts and we can get started pretty quickly with it.
Thanks!

Matinee - She Loves Me at the Croswell Opera House in Adrian - $20 .
This is a heart-warming musical that opened on Broadway in 1963, with
songs by Bock and Harnick (the songwriting team for Fiddler on the
Roof), received five Tony Award nominations and was revived on Broadway
in 1993, capturing another nine Tony Award nominations. This intimate
show is considered by many the most charming musical ever written and is
perfectly suited for the Croswell’s “Valentine’s Day” production. Georg
and Amalia are two feuding clerks in an European parfumerie during the
1930’s who secretly find solace in their anonymous romantic pen pals,
little knowing their respective correspondents are none other than each
other. SHE LOVES ME is a romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and
a touch of old world elegance and nostalgia, yet as universal and
relevant as ever in this age of Internet romances. The Tom Hanks/Meg

(From the December, 2006 Board Meeting)
To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief
overview of some of the
topics discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter.
Here are some topics from last month:
Association News
The Board is aware that our holiday lighting
this year is not up to our usual standards. We plan on making
improvements next year to brighten up our entrance and clubhouse
grounds.
Clubhouse
-
The Board has reviewed resident feedback
received after our Thanksgiving dinner. We are looking into making
changes for the future; however, cost to residents may be a factor in
making changes. We would also like to remind residents that if you have
comments or suggestions regarding clubhouse functions, there is a
Suggestion Box outside the manager’s office to make your voice heard. We
would like to have you sign your comment cards so we can contact you
with questions, but we will allow for anonymous concerns if a resident
feels more comfortable with that method.
-
A decision was made to lease a new copier as
the current copier is not reliable and requires too much maintenance. A
new machine will enable us to print the monthly newsletter in the office
and eliminate outside copying costs.
-
The Board is still evaluating new chairs for
the game room. This has been a more difficult task than we had
anticipated due to limited sources for this type of chair. We hope to
have this issue resolved in the near future.
Architectural Review Committee
Tree Removal: The Board has received
cost estimates for removal of dead trees on common areas as
well as on residents’ property. Bernie Ris will contact affected
residents with these estimates. The
actual tree cutting will begin after the first of the year. The Board
would like to remind residents that
any tree removal on your property must be approved by the Architectural
Review Committee, even
though the trees are on your property.
The Board is also looking into planting new trees in common areas to
replace some of the dead trees
which have been removed. We are going to investigate the possibility of
getting trees through the DNR or County and State in an effort to cut
down on costs. This project will go forward in the spring of
2007.

I LOVE TO LIVE
Today, Dear Lord, I’m 80, and there is much I haven’t done. I hope, Dear
Lord you’ll let me live until I’m 81. But then if I haven’t finished all I
want to do, would you please let me stay awhile ...until I’m 82?
So many places I want to go, so very much to see. Do you think that you
could? Manage to make it 83?
The world is changing very fast; there is
much in store. I’d like it very much to live until I’m 84. And if I am
still alive, I would like to stay to 85.
More planes will be up in the air, so I’d specially like to stick and see
what happens to the world .. when I am 86.
I know Dear Lord it is much to ask (and heaven must be nice). But I would
really like to stay until I’m 87.
I know by then that I won’t be fast, and sometime I’ll be late. But it
would be so pleasant to be around at 88.
I will have seen so many things, and had such a good time, so I’m sure
that I’d be willing to leave at 89 .. Maybe.
Just one more thing I would like to say. Dear Lord, I thank you kindly.
But if it is okay with you, I’d love to
live past 90!
DO YOU RECOGNIZE THIS? - THIS MIGHT
HAPPEN TO US ALL!
DIAGNOSED WITH A.A.A.D.D. - (Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder)
This is how it manifests itself:
I decided to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I looked over at my car and decided
my car needs washing.
As I started toward the garage, I noticed that there is mail on the porch
table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can
under the table, and notice that the can is full.
So I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage
first.
But then I think, since I’m going to be near the mailbox when I take out
the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.
I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only one check
left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the
house to my desk where I find a can of Coke that I had been drinking.
I’m going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside
so that I don’t accidentally knock it over. I see that the Coke is getting
warm and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.
As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the
counter catches my eye - they need to be watered.
I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that
I have been searching for all morning. Then I decide I better put them
back on my desk, but first I’m going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water
and suddenly I spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the kitchen table. I
realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the
remote, but I won’t remember that it’s on the table, so I decide to put it
back in the den where it belongs; but first I’ll water the flowers.
I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spilled on the
floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and wipe up
the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was
planning to do.
At the end of the day: the car isn’t washed, the bills aren’t paid, there
is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter, the flowers don’t have
enough water, there is still only one check in my checkbook, I can’t find
the remote, I can’t find my glasses, and I don’t remember what in the
world I did with the car keys!
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I’m really
baffled, because I know I was busy all day long, and I’m really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I’ll try to get some help for it,
but first I’ll check my email. Do me a favor, will you? Forward this
message to everyone you know, because I don’t remember to whom it has been
sent!
Don’t laugh - if this isn’t you yet, your day is coming!! Growing older is
mandatory. Growing up is optional. Laughing at yourself is therapeutic!
PS) I just walked outside and someone left the water running in the
driveway! I’m laughing; are you?
THE BEST POEM IN THE WORLD
I was shocked, confused, bewildered as I entered Heaven’s door, not by the
beauty of it all, nor the lights or it’s décor.
But it was the folks in Heaven who made me sputter and gasp - the thieves,
the liars, the sinners, the alcoholics, the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor who never said anything nice.
Herb, who I always thought, was rotting away in hell - was sitting pretty
on cloud nine, looking incredibly well!
I nudged Jesus, “What’s the deal? I would love to hear Your take. How’d
all these sinners get up here? God must’ve made a mistake!”
“And why’s everyone so quiet - so somber? Please give me a clue.”
“Hush child,” said He, “they’re all in shock! No one thought they’d be
seeing you!”
