Marian Hansen won First Place and Carolyn Williams won Second Place; but they all were wonderful and very delicious. Thanks to our judges Al Mosseso, Dick Brennan and Nelson Davey; they had a hard time choosing the 2 place winners because they were all so good! Thanks to everyone who helped set-up and clean-up. It was a fun and yummy event! Thanks, ladies!

VETERANS DAY
CELEBRATION
Friday, November 10th at Noon

$8.00

All residents are invited to attend this luncheon and film presentation. After lunch (made by Karen), Heritage in the Hills Captain (retired) Bill Dewey will provide us with a commentary on the movie 12 O’clock High starring Gregory Peck. Bill was an airplane commander of a 4-engine B-24 Liberator bomber and a survivor of the greatest, concentrated air battle in history. Over 200 planes clashed for 5 minutes resulting in 60 planes shot down. Dewey became a squadron lead pilot and flew 30 long range combat missions over Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the European Theater Ribbon with 4 Battle Stars.

Bill will critique the film and tell you why he considers 12 O’clock High to be Hollywood’s best portrayal of the United States 8th Air Force’s three year war against Germany. He will lead a discussion of the picture after the show.

Come and help us honor our armed forces past and present. Sign-up

Ponderings From the Manager

On Wednesday, October 25th the Annual Meeting of the Homeowner Association Board of Directors was held at St. John Fisher Chapel. The 139 votes for the three openings on the board of directors were counted and announced at that time. I would like to congratulate our new (returning) board members; Nelson Davey, Bob Luttermoser and Larry Prior. Also a very special thanks to those that agreed to run: Don Cassidy, Kay Kastran and Dave Purdie. We certainly appreciate all of you for your concern and support of our community!

Approximately 130 residents came to the clubhouse on Saturday, October 28th to get their Flu Shot. A special thanks to Marian Hansen and Linda Foltz who coordinated the event for us. The Pneumonia Shot was to be available and the Visiting Nurses failed to bring them. They will be at the clubhouse on Saturday, November 11th at 10:15 am to administer those vaccines. If you are interested, please sign-up or talk to me in the clubhouse office. I am sorry for the inconvenience if you were anticipating your shot on the 28th but hope you come and get it on the 11th.

As of the date of this writing, Tienken Road has opened. It opened on Friday, November 3rd at 1:30 pm. Please be cautious as you are leaving the community. New stop signs and pedestrian stripes have been installed by the city at the front of the community. Please take care as you leave and be sure to keep safe by driving carefully and stopping before exiting!

Many of you have been asking about lawn cutting and fall clean-up. The last lawn cutting will be the week of November 6th. They will also be doing the last leaf blowing and clean-up of the lawn. Miller will not be blowing the leaves from your  landscaped bed areas; that is your responsibility. They have already done an awesome job cleaning up those fallen leaves; and I’m sure you will be satisfied with their job in the future. The last compost pickup will be on Wednesday, November 8th so get busy and get those areas cleaned up and get your compost out to the curb before 10:00 am on Wednesday.

With November upon us, we are already seeing the blowing of snow! I thought this would be the year that we would see the lawn mowers and snow plows out in the community at the same time! Just some winter reminders. Please do not park on the street during the winter months. The snow plows will plow the snow around the parked car and you will be plowed in! We ask for your cooperation in this matter. Also, while on the subject of parking on the streets; please show care in parking by the mailboxes. There have been many concerns about this and it is becoming a problem. Please understand that the mail  carrier is not allowed to get out of his car to deliver the mail. If there is a parked car in front of the mailboxes; he will skip delivery. Please take extra care in making sure that your visitors and contractors know not to park at this location. I would truly appreciate your attention to this matter.

Another reminder as the darkness comes upon us earlier and earlier during the winter months; please be sure your garage coach lights are in working order. This helps keep our community well lit and safe. There has also been notice of shrubbery or arborvitae’s growing tall and blocking the lights. Please be sure to trim these bushes so that the lights are shinning to their full potential! Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated!

The Heritage Photo Directory has been completed and is in the final stages of organizing. This directory will include all residents name, address, phone and email address. Only the photos taken in September and October will be included. I think you will be very happy with this directory; I am very excited about it! The directory will be for sale in December; watch the newsletter for more information. I would like to thank resident Greg Barney who has dedicated lots of time and effort to this project. He has taken all the photos, laid out the directory and has shared all his expertise with us! Thanks, Greg!

As the holidays come upon us, there are many events scheduled at the clubhouse. Our Thanksgiving Celebration is scheduled for Friday, November 17th at 6:00 pm. This is always a beautiful night and a great way to kick-off the holiday season. We gather together to have a home style traditional Thanksgiving dinner while enjoying the company and friendship of our neighbors and friends. This is also the beginning of our Giving Tree program. You will have the opportunity to take a tag off the tree and shop for someone who may not otherwise have a holiday! I hope you will all open your hearts to help one of many in need this holiday season. On Saturday, November 18th at 11:00 am the elves will be busy decorating the clubhouse for the holiday. It is always such fun to see the clubhouse come to brightness in celebration of the season. Lunch will be served following. On Sunday, December 3rd from 3 - 5 pm we will gather together for our Holiday Open House. Charlie  Gehringer will be on the keyboard providing background holiday music. There will be lots of holiday cheer to share! I hope you all can come! Then 2007 will be brought in with a bang at our annual New Years Eve Gala Party. We will have dinner, lots of dancing and bring in the New Year together with a champagne toast. I hope you consider joining us! For those of you that are leaving for the warmer climate, I wish you safe travel. Hope you have a peaceful and healthy winter season. And don’t forget us here in the cold; keep in touch!

Happy Holidays and Blessings to All!

(From the October, 2006 Board Meeting)

To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief overview of some of the topics
discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from last month:

ASSOCIATION NEWS

The main focus of the October Board meeting was to finalize the 2007 budget. Our current financial status and spending were discussed at length. A proposed 2007 budget was reviewed and finalized. As many of you know, details were presented at the Homeowners Association Annual Meeting on October 25th. (The handout of the financial presentation is available in the clubhouse). In short, we are pleased to announce that, while some costs have gone up, the Board of Directors unanimously approved a budget that will hold monthly dues at $220 for the 2007 calendar year. 2007 payment coupons have already been mailed to residents as required (those who are not on automatic payment). The Board recognizes and appreciates Larry DeRonne, Association Treasurer who spent countless hours preparing the budget and doing such a great job with the presentation. He certainly deserves the round of applause received at the Annual Meeting! Great job and thank you Larry!

The City of Auburn Hills has installed new “official” stop signs at the Heritage exit onto Tienken Road and has also striped the pedestrian crosswalk. We ask drivers to be extra cautious when approaching the crosswalk and come to a full stop before exiting; especially as they prepare to open Tienken Road.

We are asking residents to be aware of the posted speed limit when driving in the community. Please be careful of pedestrians and those on bicycles. Let’s keep safety first!

CLUBHOUSE

Photo shoots for the Heritage Resident Directory were very successful. The directories once completed will be available for sale. Watch for this information in the December newsletter!
