A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU
As you all know, the pool and spa has
closed for the season, effective October 1st. We extend a very special
thank you to employee JOHN BELL for his outstanding service to the
operation of the pool during the summer of 2006. I want you all to know
that we had a “perfect pool” with each and every water test this summer
with the County. This is thanks to John’s hard work and dedication. Thanks
for a great summer season, John, and for your dedication! GREAT JOB!
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE
Do you have some extra time on your
hands? Would you like to spend it doing a worthwhile job? Pontiac
Osteopathic Hospital in Pontiac is looking for volunteers to work in their
Gift Shoppe. Resident Fabiola Tonna would like to share more with you
about the opportunities. Give her a call at 276-1911. Do it today!
DID YOU KNOW?
In July 1,400 patients received dental
care in a 65-chair dental clinic in the Wise County Fairgrounds in Wise,
Virginia. Many health services were available which included dental,
medical, eyeglass manufacture, diabetes management, bone density scans
and women’s cancer prevention. Dental volunteers provided almost $1
million in care that included prophylaxis, restorations, pulpotomies,
dentures and radiography. Dr. Catherine Fischer of Centreville, Virginia
brought an assistant of her own, her son Harrison, a high school student
who she says is “brainwashed” for a career in dentistry. “My husband
(Dr. Charles Fischer) and I volunteer at these events and think it’s a
wonderful experience for our son,” said Dr. Fischer. “These people
really need help and are so appreciative. These are working people who
can’t afford health insurance, and you need to see how they live. It is
such an eye-opener when you’re in the bubble of middle class living.“
Dr. Catherine Fischer is Tom & Dottie Buran’s daughter and Harrison is
their grandson! How awesome is that?! Kudo’s to this family!
NOTES OF THANKS …
From Residents to Your Home:
- Willie Swayze writes: Thank you for
all your support and prayers during my dear Mother’s illness and her
passing, I feel blessed to be living in such a caring community.
- Mrs. Josephine Tonna writes: To All
the Persons who did the shawl for me: I thank you so much! It’s a
wonderful gift that I treasure! I put it on my bed to remind me when I
pray my prayers. I think of you! You are the most wonderful persons I
ever have to meet. I hope I can thank you in person one day. Thank you
again; God Bless You All!
- Susan Doherty writes: Dear Friends
and Neighbors; Thank you for the flowers, cards and prayers during my
recent illness. It is sincerely appreciated.
- Roy Wayrynen and Family sends these
thanks: To all my Heritage Friends and Neighbors: Thank you for all
the
beautiful cards, flowers and prayers for Betty during her illness and
passing. You have all been a blessing at this sorrowful time. Thank
you!
- The Pool Aerobics and Exercise
Classes Send Their Thoughts: We would like to thank both Pat Halstead
and Shelley Kletter for their wonderful pool classes once again this
summer. It was a wonderful opportunity and we thank you for your
dedication to teaching. Thanks for a wonderful summer in the pool! We
love you! Your students!
- Bob Cleveland sends a very warm
thanks: I would like to thank Bernie Ris, Nelson Davey and Frank Burn
for their work in helping to find our lost cat last month. They were
workers on a mission! Our precious pet escaped the house and was
missing for far too long. Our kitty was found on Jess Soltess’ patio
and he was already aware of the missing cat, so he knew where to call
and we claimed her with thankfulness! There is a real sense of
community here at Heritage; even when it’s a loved pet. Thank you for
your help when it mattered most! We truly appreciate it! Just another
way that shows what a great community we have here at Heritage! Thanks
gentlemen!
- John Imbrunnone says: Your
thoughtfulness is appreciated! Thanks for the thoughtfulness .. the
flowers and cards and calls were very much appreciated. Heritage in
the Hills is like family; warm, kind and loving. Love, Peace and Joy
to all!.

Ponderings From the Manager
I First I would like to remind
everyone to please SLOW DOWN when traveling in the community! I have seen
so many “close calls” because of speeding throughout the streets in the
community; especially along Heritage Drive. Please remember that the
posted speed limit in the community is 17 Miles Per Hours. Next time you
are driving down Heritage Drive, check your speedometer and see what you
are traveling at! SLOW DOWN before something horrible happens! Thank you!
And on that same note; walkers and runners please use the sidewalks when
exercising in the community. It is very dangerous using the roads and not
the sidewalks. That’s why they are there! Please be safe! (Thanks to
Sharron Ris for her thoughts on this matter).
Last month you received two mailings from the association. One was an
update from our lawyer on the concrete law suit. I hope you have all
received it. If not, there are extra copies in the office. You also
received a mailing for the Annual Meeting of the Homeowner Board of
Directors which will be held on Wednesday, October 25th at 7:00 pm at St.
John Fisher Chapel on Walton. In this mailing was your chance to nominate
people for the Board of Directors. After accepting the nomination, this
will create our ballot for the three open positions on the Board of
Directors. This mailing will be out the week of October 16th. You are
welcome to turn in your Ballot prior to the Annual Meeting to the
clubhouse office. Or you can chose to wait to vote at the Annual Meeting.
Also included in that mailing was a Voting Representative form. There has
been some confusion about the completion of this form. It must be newly
completed YEARLY. If you filled one out last year before the Annual
Meeting, it is time to complete it again. Please understand that you
CANNOT vote if you have you have not turned in this form. The person
designated the voter is the one who must submit the ballot. If you have
not yet turned in your form; please do so as soon as possible. Many have
asked if it’s “too late.” It is not too late now; but it will be too late
once the ballots are in the mail. So, be sure to dig it out of your mail
pile; complete it and bring it over to the clubhouse at your earliest
convenience! Thank you! If you need a proxy ballot because you will be
out-of-town at the time of voting, please contact me at the office and I
will explain that process. I hope you all plan on attending the Annual
Meeting to see just how hard the Board of Directors works on behalf of
this community. Our lawyer will also be present at the meeting to give an
update of the law suit. It’s a meeting you won’t want to miss; so I hope
you’ve marked your calendars!
I know many of you “snowbirds” are getting ready to head south soon.
Before leaving, please remember to complete an “Absence Form” with the
office. This will give us your correct address, phone number and emergency
contact should we need it in your absence. If you would like to receive
the monthly newsletter, The Heritage Headlines, we will gladly mail it to
you each month. The cost for mailing is $.80 per issue. Remember that you
can also access the newsletter and calendar each month the website which
is
http://www.heritageinthehills.com. Using the “user name” and
“password” you can also access the “Resident’s Only” section which has the
Resident List on it. Trying to make it easier for all of you! Wishing you
all safe travel and a blessed winter season!
I remind everyone that we lock the kitchen door in the evening. If you are
at the clubhouse for an event after hours, the kitchen door is usually
shut, but not locked so that you can use it for your enjoyment. However,
please be sure to lock the kitchen door before leaving, shut off all the
lights and turn the thermostats down. Thank you for doing your part to
keep the clubhouse a safe place to be!
In September the Board sponsored a table at the Senior Lifestyle Expo held
at the OPC (Older Persons Commission) in
Rochester. We did a display of our community and talked to many people
about Heritage in the Hills. Special thanks to Pat Siepielski and Larry
DeRonne who helped man the table for the day. There were approximately
2,000 seniors who came through the doors! We educated them as to WHO we
are, WHERE we are and WHAT’S available here. We got the word out! It was a
lot of fun and suggest next year you all go and take a look at all the
services that were available.
You will notice in the Board notes that the clubhouse office hours are
changing for the winter season. We will now be closed on Sunday’s except
when there is a scheduled event happening. The office will be open Monday
thru Friday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. Saturday hours will be from 10:00
- 2:00 pm. Terri will continue to be in the office on Monday’s and
alternate times throughout the week and Saturday. My days off will
continue to be Sunday and Monday. This month I have several meetings
occurring which I have marked on the calendar. If Terri is not available
to work because of her school schedule, you will find the office closed. I
am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause! Note that I will be on
vacation on Friday, Oct. 6th and again on Saturday, Oct. 28th. I will also
be attending the MAAP (Michigan Association of Activity Professionals)
Conference on Oct. 26th and 27th. I have been nominated to sit on the
Board of MAAP, however have declined the nomination. Being President of
OCAAP (Oakland County Association of Activity Professionals) is commitment
enough for me at this time! We will be celebrating my youngest
granddaughter’s 2nd birthday in late October; has it already been two
years? Guess it’s time to update the picture on my computer, don’t ya
think? Happy Fall to Everyone!

THE RED HAT HOT HONEYS HAPPENINGS
If you have
any questions call either Janice Mosesso at 248-475-7850 or Willie Swayze
at 248-475-0012
A big thank you to Margaret Gibson and Rose Normandin for our activity
last month. Europa Bistro did a really nice job of making us welcome; even
gave us a separate room. Our waiter was entertaining and the food was
good. Afterwards we were off to the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen
Farm for a tour. Our docent, Michele, took us through the little red house
and the main house explaining some of the history of the Van Hoosen and
Jones families. A very enjoyable day!
Orders have been taken and received for both headbands and name tags. A
couple headbands need to be picked up and there are a couple extras
available if anyone wishes to purchase one. The sign-up sheet for upcoming
activities is in place over the Red Hat credenza. Please check your
calendar and sign up.
Syvlia Bucknavich and Linda Foltz have made plans for us to have lunch and
play Bocce ball this month. This will take place on Tuesday, October 24th
at Palazzo de Bocce in Lake Orion. We need to be at the clubhouse at 11:00
am with lunch being served at 11:30 am and Bocce ball to follow at 12:30
pm. The cost for both is $14. If you haven’t played Bocce ball; don’t
worry! Instructions are provided! The Family Style lunch includes: pasta,
salad, bread and beverage. Reservation deadline is October 16th. Please
RSVP to either Sylvia at 373-9881 or Linda at 373-8528. Let us know if you
are willing to drive.
On November 28th we will gather in the craft room at the clubhouse to
decorate red hat ornaments to be placed on a Christmas tree (donated by
Ann Moran) in the clubhouse library. Willie and Rosemary have been busy
creating the hats and we will be the decorators. Supplies will be
furnished and all your imagination and creativity will be used to produce
gorgeous, one of a kind ornaments. Watch the credenza for a flier shortly.
To those of you leaving in October; safe journey!
In Friendship, Janice Mosesso

generally happens slowly and often we find ourselves surprised one day
that our balance isn’t what it used to be. Even if you aren’t noticing
big changes right now, come and learn some ways to prevent problems
later. Dr. Heather Hankin Chavez a physical therapist from NovaCare
Rehabilitation in Auburn Hills will be talking about balance. Topic will
include: causes of balance changers, exercise to prevent balance issues,
creating a balance friendly home environment and where to go for help.

(From the September, 2006 Board Meeting)
To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief
overview of some of the topics
discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here
are some topics from last month:
CLUBHOUSE UPDATES
The first picture-taking session for the
Heritage in the Hills resident directory went very well. We have three
sessions scheduled for October. Please contact Karen if you have not yet
signed up to have your picture taken. She will be happy to put you on
the schedule.
Just a reminder to all residents for the upcoming political
elections—campaign signs are not permitted in the community. Please do
not put political signs on your property.
Clubhouse hours for the Fall/Winter season are as follows:
-
Monday through Friday – 9:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m.
-
Saturday – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
-
The office will be closed on Sundays except
for scheduled events.
Another reminder – per our bylaws, anyone
over the age of 18 who is living in the community is considered a
resident and may participate in all activities. Please feel free to join
us at clubhouse events.
We hope to see all residents at the annual meeting of the Heritage in
the Hills Association on
October 25, 2006. The meeting is once again at St. John Fisher Chapel
and will begin at 7:00 pm.
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE:
Storm Water Detention Ponds: Work on the
detention ponds will begin this fall and will be completed in 2007. The
ARC met on September23rd with residents who are affected to explain what
will occur to the surrounding areas.
Tree Replacement Program: Replacement of dead trees on resident
properties and common areas is well underway. A total of 48 trees will be
replaced in the common areas.
Additionally, we will soon begin marking dead ash trees in the wooded
areas for removal this
winter. We are offering residents the opportunity to participate in this
program to take advantage of
reduced contractor pricing. If you are interested in participating, please
contact Karen as soon as
possible. You will be asked to complete an ARC application and given
yellow tape to mark the trees
you would like removed.
