NOW IS THE TIME TO SCHEDULE YOUR IRRIGATION SYSTEM WINTERIZATION

It’s that time of year again! We will be winterizing your irrigation systems the week of October 9th. Due to the high volume of winterization appointments, we will be unable to do other service work during your scheduled appointment. Most service work will be taken care of during the time of our spring start-up. As always, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule, however, these appointments are made on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cost for winterizing your system is $45.00. Please call the office direct at 248-391-6113 to schedule your appointment. For those of you who signed up for our Automatic Scheduling service, your appointment time has already been scheduled and we will be contacting you shortly to confirm the date and time. Thank you!

HERITAGE IN THE HILLS GUARDS EXPRESS THEIR THANKS

Doug, Jeff, Lucille and Chareese send their thanks to Karen, the Board and all the residents for the wonderful appreciation luncheon in August. ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE NEWS

STORM WATER DETENTION PONDS: The ARC has been in contact with the City of Auburn Hills and Oakland County regarding the required maintenance of the two storm water detention ponds in our Community. We have studied their recommendations and will begin a maintenance program this fall. Residents whose property is adjacent to the two ponds will be invited to informational meetings in September.

WINTER TREE-CUTTING PROGRAM: The ARC is again this year coordinating a dead tree-cutting program this coming winter. If you have dead trees on your property that need to be cut down, they can be included with the Association tree-cutting program at a group cost savings. Now is the time to identify the dead trees with yellow plastic ribbon which you can obtain from the Clubhouse Office. You must submit an ARC Application which lists the marked trees to be cut down. The application must be submitted by September 30th in order to be estimated by our tree service. Be sure to list your winter address and phone number if you plan to be away. See Karen at the Clubhouse Office for further details.

Ponderings From the Manager

I have some pool updates for you! The Diaper Changing Table has been installed in the Women’s Restroom in the
Clubhouse. Please do not change wet diapers at the poolside and please do not dispose of diapers in the trash cans at the poolside. All diaper changing must be done in the restroom. This procedure will be added to the “Pool Rules” next year. The pool and spa will remain open through the month of September. We will close on Sunday, October 1, 2006. Some have asked about the pool passes wondering if they need to turn them in and get new ones next year. NO! Hold on to your pool passes! We have your numbers registered and you keep them year after year.

Speaking of the pool, I’d like to send KUDOS to the Saturday morning exercise class with Shelley. They have been out there every week; rain or shine! Thanks to Shelley and Pat for a great summer of pool exercise!

On Sunday, September 10th there will be a Realtor Open House in the community. Most all realtors are participating and will have their homes open for viewing. There will be lots of advertising for the event and we invite you to invite your friends that may have shown an interest in the community. This is a chance to come in on one day and see most of the homes that are for sale! It’s a great idea and we are hoping for lots of participation!

Hope you have all noticed the updated newsletter format. Our newsletter holds a lot of information and it was getting a little hard to read to fit it all in. Several residents came in and said “I can’t read it because the print is too small”; so, I’ve tried to fix it by adding another page and making the print larger. Let me know if you find it easier to read. Remember, if you have anything for the newsletter on a monthly basis; it must be to me by the 3rd Sunday of the month.

I must remind you all about picking up after your pets while walking them throughout the community. Please carry a
disposable bag with you that you can use to pick up the waste. This includes throughout the entire community, even on the trails. Some residents have commented that they see people walking into the community (especially in the back) with their pets and that they are not cleaning up after them. If you see someone entering the community that is not a resident, with a pet or not, please notify me immediately. We are a private community and we do not want these people walking in here! The gate house will stop people from entering; that’s why if they don’t recognize you and you are walking in; they may stop you and ask your name if you live here. However, we don’t have any control from the back; so we need your help! I thank you in advance for you help in this matter.

Many of you have asked about the trees on Heritage Blvd. This issue is discussed under the board notes and under the Architectural Review Report. We thank you for your concern and are glad to report that the trees have suffered from the hot temperatures but will be fine in the spring. The result will be loosing their leaves early, but they will be fine in the spring. Miller Landscape has an article in the newsletter about scheduling for irrigation shut-offs, you may want to think ahead and call now to have that service scheduled.

I would like to apologize for the shortage of food at the Salsa Sensation. We found out that it was the fault of the cook at the caterers. They did reduce the bill and we will be refunding monies for those that weren’t able to eat. However, this situation continues to be a problem! We have implemented dates “to sign up by” for the very reason of planning. Whether I am cooking for the event or hire a caterer, shopping and counts MUST be done ahead of time so that food can be purchased accordingly. Even with the posted dates, it is not uncommon to have 10-14 people ask to come; right up to the day of the event. We will be unable to accommodate these requests any longer. Once the sign-up date has been reached; no more reservations for the event will be taken. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause; but you will have to plan accordingly so that we can! We will also be making some other changes, such as dishing out the main dish to assure there is enough for everyone the first time through. At the dinner events we go around and call tables. Please wait for your table to be called before going to the food line. With more and more people attending, we will continue to make changes necessary to assure a successful event. Thank you for your cooperation and support!

Wednesday, October 25th will be the Annual Meeting of the Homeowner’s Board of Directors. It will be held at St. John Fisher on Walton at 7:00 pm. In the next couple days you will receive a mailing asking for nominations to the Board of Directors. Please give this careful consideration and do you part by making nominations. In that mailing will also be a new Voters Representative form which will need to be turned into the office before you can vote; so be sure to complete it and get it in as soon as possible. Plan now to attend the Annual Meeting!

As we move through September, fall will be quickly approaching. The leaves will begin to change color and our land will be like an artists pad. Get out to a cider mill, talk a walk on a leaf lined path and enjoy the beauty of the fall. And while you are at it .. take your last swim in the pool for the season! Happy Fall to All!

THE RED HAT HOT HONEYS HAPPENINGS

If you have any questions call either Janice Mosesso at 248-475-7850 or Willie Swayze at 248-475-0012

The summer has sped by and discussion is beginning as to when the “snow birds” will be flying. Before you leave there are several business items to be addressed.

We need hostesses for every month in 2007. I will get a sign up sheet to the clubhouse as soon as possible. Please watch for it.

I have checked and can order name badges for any member that does not have one and would like one. The cost will be $5 per badge. If you wish one, please PRINT your name, as you would like it to appear on the badge, clearly on a piece of paper and enclose $5 and drop it off at my home at 3716 Crestwood.

Many of you commented on the headband I was wearing at the last outing and inquired about purchasing one. I was able to contact the store in Wisconsin where I purchased it and the owner will ship an assortment of them to me. If we order at least 20 the cost will be $5.50 each. Under 20 we will have to pay $6.50 each. I have four names (Karen Bishop, Gretchen Thams, Jane Brennan and Gerri Black) on the list. If anyone else is interested, please call me at 475-7850 to either order one or to see mine to determine if you would like to order one. I would like all orders for both the badges and headbands prepaid and ready by September 18th.

A big thank you to Jane Brennan for taking us Irish in August. We had 22 members meeting for lunch at Gus O’Connor’s in Rochester. Everything went well, the restaurant did a good job and we enjoyed good food and great conversation. It was wonderful to see so many of you. Thanks, Jane!

The September fliers are on the Red Hat credenza. Margaret Gibson and Rose Normandin have made arrangements for us to lunch at Europa Bistro in Rochester and then tour the Museum at Van Hoosen Farm on Thursday, September 14th. Please pick up a flier and
respond by September 10th to either Margaret or Rose.

Sylvia Bucknavich and Linda Foltz have set aside October 24th for lunch and Bocce. Fliers will be available with all the details soon. Check the Red Hat credenza.

In Friendship, Janice Mosesso

(From the August, 2006 Board Meeting)

To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief overview of some of the topics discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from last month:

CLUBHOUSE:

Many of you have noted the appearance of the trees along Heritage Blvd. The bad news is the trees have a fungus which was aggravated by the recent spell of hot weather. The good news is that the trees are not dead. They will be sprayed in the spring and will get their new growth of leaves as usual.

The luncheons for the Miller Landscaping crew were a big success. Thanks to all residents who  provided food and helped to serve and clean up. The security staff is looking forward to their  luncheon as well.

Please be cautious of walkers and cyclists when driving in our community.

By the time you read this, work will have started on installing the turning lanes along Squirrel and Tienken. Again, caution is advised when driving through this area.

The sample chairs for the game room have arrived. We are also looking at chairs from another source and may have additional samples for you to use.

To offset rising gasoline prices, the Board has adopted a fee scale for residents who use the Heritage
bus as follows:

  • Trips up to 25 miles - $2 per person
  • Trips from 25 to 50 miles - $5 per person
  • Trips over 50 miles one way - $10 per person

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE:

Bernie Ris has been in contact with Oakland County and the City of Auburn Hills regarding
maintenance of our detention ponds. We have studied their recommendations and will begin a
maintenance program this fall.
