Special Recognition To Our Residents:
  • A very special thanks to Chris DeGroot who went “way beyond” by helping clean-up after the women’s luncheon in May. Not only did she clear tables and do the dishes; she then took home all the tablecloths (and that was two per table) and washed them and had them back the next day! Thanks Chris for all your help and support! You are wonderful!

  • There were actually many who helped clean up after the women’s luncheon; and thanks goes to everyone. Special thanks to all the women in attendance who displayed tremendous patience as we struggled with the BBQ’s! Thank you for making the afternoon so special!

  • Special thanks to Marian Hansen and Kathy Mischley who threw on their aprons and were great assistants for the men’s luncheon in May. They helped set-up, helped serve (especially the dessert), and then did the clean-up! You deserve a round of applause for all your hard work! Thanks for making the afternoon so memorable for all!

  • Speaking of the men’s luncheon, a special thanks to resident Bill Dewey who helped organize the event with the showing of the movie, The Great Raid. I think it touched us all. Thanks also to Jack Kozlowski for his dedication/prayer before the meal. You both made the event very special. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

  • It’s great to have Nelson back and his handiwork in the community. Thanks Nelson for all you do for all!

NOTES FROM RESIDENTS TO ALL NEIGHBORS:

  • Gretchen Thams writes: Dear Friends & Neighbors: Having knee surgery wasn’t quite the piece of cake I thought it would be. However, all the kindnesses shown to me certainly made the ordeal more bearable. Thank you for the beautiful flower arrangement, cards, chocolates, phone calls, visits, chocolates, chauffeur services, toilet seat, mail delivery, ice bag and chocolates. I also received over night nursing service and special “meals on wheel” .. Including food, cooking, and clean-up! What more could a person ask for! I do not plan on more surgery, but if I have to, I know I can count on all of you wonderful people at Heritage in the Hills. B’shalom.

  • Linda Foltz writes: To the Residents of Heritage in the Hills:Thank you so much for the beautiful flower basket I received after my recent wrist surgery. The flowers are beautiful and will enjoy them for many days. We surely do live in a caring community as I have found out first hand (or left wrist!). There are many helping hands that have provided for me and I am grateful. Thank you all!

  • Dottie Buran writes: Once again, Heritage has shown what a caring and supportive community it is. Tom and I want to thank everyone for their prayers, flowers, calls, cards, goodies, and gourmet meals during my recent bout with renal cancer. (All those talented cooks should start a class for people like me!). As a result of all this kindness, I am recovering well. Thank you!

  • On behalf of the Flower Fund, Rosemary Caccamo writes: The Hospitality Committee and I would like to thank our community for their very generous response to our Flower Fund envelopes. As of May 24th we have collected $1,762. This past year (2005), 28 arrangements were sent that totaled $937.04. As you can see, we are off to a great start for 2006! If any one knows of a neighbor or friend living in our community who is going to have surgery, in the hospital, or is seriously ill, please notify Karen in the office. She will notify me or Marian Hansen so we can be sure flowers are sent on behalf of the community. We thank you once again for your tremendous response and support. Thankfully Yours!

Ponderings From the Manager

Just a few reminders about pool rules and procedures. You must bring your swim passes with you when coming to the pool, and please remember to sign-in. This is a county requirement. Please enjoy yourself while at the pool and if any problems are sited; please share them with either Karen or John Bell; the two Pool Operators. Remember to bring your clubhouse key with you in case you need to get into the restrooms when the building is locked. Pool hours are 10:00 am until 10:00 pm. Please, no swimming other than those hours. Swimming for children is from 2 - 5 every day. No exceptions. It is your responsibility to watch the children you bring and be sure they are following the pool rules. The rules were in the May newsletter but if you would like another copy, please don’t hesitate to ask. If you are going to have more guests than you have guest tags for; please get permission from the manager prior to admittance. We are working hard to provide a safe and healthy environment. Please help us by using the showers in the clubhouse prior to swimming. Please be patient if you find we have to close due to a mechanical or other emergency. We will do all we can to open as soon as possible. Remember the pool will be closed when inclement weather is upon us; or will close if a storm comes up suddenly. The pool water is kept at approximately 82 degrees while the spa is at 102. I hope you find the pool and spa an enjoyment. Be sure to spend some time in the pool area; it is beautiful and peaceful. The Garden Committee has done a beautiful job with the flowers again this year. Be sure to thank them for their hard work when you see them. The Committee consists of Marv & Bunny Harms; Ed & Margaret Raschke; Bette McCullough; Joanne Stroebel and Sue Ellen Miller. Enjoy the summer at the poolside!

Some clubhouse reminders - If you turn the air up while in the clubhouse; be sure to turn it back down upon leaving. If you are using the clubhouse for a game night, please remember to clean-up after yourselves. Put all food and coffee supplies away; clean-up the counters and any spillages and leave it the way it was found. Please do not remove any utensils or supplies from the kitchen. Do not help yourself to anything you might see in the refrigerator. It may belong to someone else or there for a social or upcoming event. When shutting off the lights in the clubhouse, turn them OFF; do not just slide the dimmers to off. Your help in all these matters will help us remain efficient. Thank you for your support and assistance!

Miller Landscape is already experiencing water problems caused by over-watering or watering the night before or day of cutting. PLEASE be cautious of this otherwise you will receive a letter stating we won’t be able to cut your lawn for this purpose. If you need help resetting your irrigation box, please don’t hesitate to ask in the office. If setting water if found; it will be impossible to mow the grass! Please, once more, do not water the night before or the morning of your scheduled mowing day. If you have any questions, see me in the clubhouse office.

Sunday hours in the office will resume in June. The office will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 - 2:00 pm. I will be in the office on Saturday and Terri will be there on Sunday. My hours will continue the same with days off on Sunday and Monday. We will remain open until 7 on Wednesdays.

Lastly; did you all see the investigative report on Financial Services of America .

THE RED HAT HOT HONEYS HAPPENINGS

We received a warm welcome to the Michigan Design Center at our May meeting. Divided up into two groups, each with our own professional decorator as a guide, we toured the many interesting shops. Afterwards we were off to Albans for lunch; which included good food, lots of laughs and good conversation. Thanks go to Diane Hightower and Pat Siepielski for the arrangements.

I have no particulars, but we are going to have an activity in June. At lunch Nancy Bell, Nancy Brennan and Kathy Williams stepped forward and offered to plan something. BE SURE TO KEEP CHECKING THE RED HAT CREDENZA FOR ALL INFORMATION ON THE JUNE ACTIVITY.

Dottie Buran and Briggi Williams are still in the planning stages for our July activity. At this time I have no date, but keep checking the credenza for further information. The date and particulars will be in the July newsletter. Jane Brennan and Betty Muscarella are hosting our August activity. I’ll get that date out as soon as I have it also.

We welcome new member Gerri Black.

(From the May, 2006 Board Meeting)

To increase communications about Board activities we are placing a brief overview of some of the topics discussed at each month’s Board meeting in the Monthly newsletter. Here are some topics from last month:

MAILBOXES:

Mailboxes are starting to show age and have been damaged by the use of grass string-trimmers by landscapers. The Board has voted to have aluminum attached around the bases of the mailbox posts and to have the posts re- stained. The work will begin in Phase I with Phase II following this spring. In the fall, the work will proceed through all other phases until all posts have been maintained.

ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE (ARC):

We have many dead trees along the streets and backyards throughout Heritage. The ARC will be conducting a survey to count how many trees need to be replaced. Residents will be given the opportunity to order their re placement trees at the same time as the trees for common areas are ordered, thereby being able to obtain favor- able pricing. See more information below.

CLUBHOUSE UPDATES:

Shades have been ordered and installed for the card room. Quotes have been obtained for cleaning the
draperies. They will be taken out for cleaning and brought back and re-hung. This will be done in June. Also in June, the exterior wood at the front of the clubhouse will be painted, along with the gazebo and the two pagodas in the pool area. A committee has been formed to begin the process of replacing the chairs in the card room.

CONCRETE DAMAGE:

The Board voted to move forward with legal action against the builder and developer with regard to the concrete issues as explained in the letter to residents from our attorney. We will keep you advised as this lawsuit moves forward.

SENIOR EXPO:

The Board approved Heritage in the Hills participation at the Senior Expo to be held in September at the OPC in Rochester Hills. This will provide an opportunity to showcase our Community to an "over 55" audience.

REPLACEMENT OF DEAD TREES ON RESIDENT’S PROPERTY
NEWS FROM THE ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMITTEE

Many residents have inquired or have already completed an application for assistance with replacing dead trees which the builder planted in back or side yards and between the sidewalk and curb (street trees). All these trees are the responsibility of the individual homeowners. The ARC is coordinating with residents a project to have Miller Landscape Company remove and replace trees which are diseased or dead. All replacement trees must be a minimum of 3” in diameter and 7 feet high. The street trees must be replaced with the same species of tree (except ash or elm). The yard trees may be specified by the resident with the exception of fruit bearing trees. We hope with a multiple of trees being done that favorable pricing will be received.

The ARC will be making a survey within the first two weeks of June to identify dead trees and informing residents that they must be replaced. If you would like to participate in the community-wide tree replacement, you must complete an ARC APPLICATION and explain which trees you would like removed and replanted. ARC Applications are available in the library at the Clubhouse. These applications must be received at the clubhouse no later than June 15th. You will then be contacted regarding the cost and timing of this replacement program. Again, we hope that a community-wide effort will result in a cost savings to all. If you have any questions, please call Karen in the Clubhouse office.
